Culture
Park Güell has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1984 and is a green space characterised by biodiversity. Surrounded by nature and biodiversity, it offers places to stay and meet for outdoor activities.
The Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. The complex comprises twelve pavilions surrounded by green spaces, connected by one kilometre of underground galleries. During a visit, the Casa de Operaciones and the Pabellón de San Rafael can be viewed; they present a historical reconstruction and the exhibition “Paciente y médico, de la narración a la objetividad”.
The MNAC is located in the Palau Nacional de Montjuïc, which was built for the International Exhibition of 1929. At the main entrance, the museum has two ramps; most areas of the museum are accessible to people with reduced mobility. The MNAC also offers tactile tables with audio descriptions for a selection of paintings, sculptures and goldsmiths’ works from its collection.
The Palau de la Música Catalana was built between 1905 and 1908 by Lluís Domènech i Montaner as the home of the Orfeó Català. It is an important work of Catalan Modernisme and a concert hall recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For more than a hundred years, its concert hall has been an important venue for symphonic and choral-symphonic music in Barcelona.
The Basilica of the Sagrada Família is still under construction. Thematic routes through Barcelona lead from the city’s origins as a Roman colony to its modern character.
The Museu Marítim is located in the Reales Atarazanas, an important example of civil Gothic architecture. The Museu Marítim’s “Atarazanas y galeras” exhibition presents items from the MMB collections on the history of the Reales Atarazanas, building models, galley models, as well as audiovisual and interactive elements.
The Poble Espanyol is an open-air museum with craft workshops. The Fundació Joan Miró houses more than 14,000 works.
Nature
The Museu de la Ciència CosmoCaixa is a science centre in Barcelona offering educational activities and dynamic programmes. The Bosque Inundado at CosmoCaixa recreates an ecosystem from the Amazon region around Santarém in Brazil. It is a 1,000-square-metre section of tropical rainforest where visitors can discover some of the animal and plant species typical of the Amazon.
The Parc del Laberint d'Horta is a historic garden with a maze formed by cypress hedges and Barcelona’s oldest surviving garden. Guided tours provide information about the garden’s history. The Parc del Laberint d'Horta is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility.
Coast
Barcelona’s coast has 28 Blue Flag beaches. Barcelona’s beaches are accessible to people with reduced mobility. Activities such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding and catamaran trips are available in Barcelona.
Getting around
Several high-speed rail lines connect Barcelona with the rest of Spain and France; there is also an extensive network of commuter trains.
