The 27-kilometre-long, signposted Ruta de les Colònies follows the PR C-144.

Landscape and Trails

The Ruta de les Fonts is a circular route with three signposted variants; it can be hiked or ridden by mountain bike in either direction.

It leads to ten springs within the municipality of Casserres.

The route to Molí de Ballús follows the Riera de les Febres. Beside the mill is a rock overhang where, during cold winters with abundant water, a considerable waterfall freezes and forms a cascade of ice.

The Alzina dels Colls is listed as a monumental tree and is located just over one kilometre from the centre of Casserres, in the direction of Viver. It is 16.5 metres high and has an average crown width of 28.6 metres.

The Bauma de les Set Portes is best reached via the Sender de les Fonts. This begins at the football pitch outside Casserres, in the direction of l'Espunyola.

The Bauma de les Set Portes was inhabited until the mid-20th century and contains a stable, living quarters and a well-preserved bread oven.

Churches and Old Town

The church of Mare de Déu dels Àngels contains a Baroque altarpiece consecrated in 1704, created by the sculptor Segimon Pujol.

Sant Pau de Casserres is a Romanesque church whose present building replaced an earlier pre-Romanesque structure in the 12th century.

Sant Pau de Casserres was consecrated as a parish church on 20 January 907.

The wall paintings from the end of the Romanesque period and the beginning of the Gothic period are considered particularly interesting examples of medieval Catalan painting.

Sant Joan Degollat is a 14th-century Romanesque chapel. Access is via an unmarked 30-minute footpath.

The church of Santa Maria de l'Antiguitat contains two 14th-century sarcophagi from Sant Pau de Casserres.

The old town of Casserres essentially consists of Carrer Major and Plaça de la Creu.

Carrer Major encapsulates Casserres's original urban structure.

River Colonies

Colònia Guixaró is a textile river colony established in the 19th century, with workers' housing, a church, a school, a clinic and a theatre.

L'Ametlla de Casserres, also known as Colònia Monegal, is a 19th-century textile river colony in Catalonia. Such colonies were established particularly along the banks of the Llobregat.

Festivals and Traditions

The Trobada de Caramelles in Casserres has taken place every year since 1982, approximately fifteen days after Easter, and welcomes choirs from all over Catalonia.

The Festa Major d'estiu de Casserres is celebrated around the feast day of Saint Bartholomew on 24 August; the festivities take place on the nearest weekend.

The Festa de la Mare de Déu del Roser in l'Ametlla de Casserres takes place during the first week of October, on the weekend closest to 7 October.

The Aplec de Sant Blai takes place on the Sunday after 3 February at the Sant Miquel de Fonogedell hermitage and includes a rosary and the singing of the Goigs de Sant Blai.

The Festa Major d'hivern is celebrated around the feast day of Saint Joseph and includes exhibitions, workshops, a street procession, a theatre performance and dancing.

The Foc de Sant Isidre is celebrated on 14 May. On the preceding evening, a fire is lit at night and fireworks are set off.

At the Foc de Sant Isidre, participants are served Coca with chocolate, Moscatell and non-alcoholic soft drinks.
