Culture and History

In Torelló, the Museu de la Torneria is housed in the former Can Vidal factory. The museum explains the industrialisation of Catalonia through the craft of wood and horn turning, which became a complementary industrial sector to the textile industry with industrialisation. It shows the processing of a tree trunk through to the production of a loom bobbin, a warp thread spool or a spinning-machine spindle.

The historic centre of Torelló preserves old houses with round-arched portals or carved lintels, recalling traditional local family lineages such as Codolosa, Parrella, Pujols, Vinyes and Calveria. The church of Sant Feliu de Torelló already existed in 881. The Teatre Cirvianum dates from 1925.

The Museu de l’ADET is located in the parish’s attic and opened in 1948. It houses archaeological, historical and artistic objects, craft tools from the town’s trades, minerals, coins and maps of old routes. The current building of the Santuari de Rocaprevera was constructed from 1924 onwards according to a design by Josep M. Pericas.

Markets and Festivals

Torelló’s weekly market dates back to 1270 and takes place on Wednesdays near the municipal market site. The Mercat del Trasto takes place on the second Sunday in May and is a market for second-hand goods and privately owned furniture.

The Aplec de Rocaprevera takes place from Saturday to Monday on the third weekend of September and is considered Torelló’s second local festival. At the Carnaval de Terra Endins in Torelló, a carnival parade and the Terra Endins music festival took place on Saturday, 1 March.

Rivers and Hiking Trails

The Ges River flows into the Ter River in Torelló. The Castell de Torelló stands on a hill as the valley’s furthest-forward lookout point. The only visible remnant of the castle is a truncated tower, dated to 821.

The PR C-45 Vall del Ges hiking trail connects Torelló, Sant Vicenç de Torelló and Sant Pere de Torelló. It starts and ends at Plaça de la Sardana in Torelló, is 22.3 km long and takes 5 hours and 35 minutes.

The PR C-47 Camí Vora-Ges hiking trail follows the course of the Ges River between Torelló and Vidrà and passes Fontsanta and Forat Micó. This trail starts in Torelló’s sports area next to the confluence of the Ges and Ter rivers, is 18.10 km long and takes 3 hours and 50 minutes.

Orientation

Torelló railway station is a five-minute walk from the Museu de la Torneria. Torelló’s motorhome parking area offers twelve parking spaces.
