Taradell: Festivals, Circular Routes and Cultural Heritage

Taradell is the setting for the Festa dels Tonis de Taradell, which has taken place continuously since 1982 on the weekend before 17 January; the only exception was 2002. The central event of this festival is the Passant dels tres tombs.

Local Traditions

Tast del porc is a culinary tradition associated with the Festa dels Tonis. Botifarra, bacon and slices of bread are cooked over fires lit for Sant Antoni Abat and served with a little wine. At the Fira de Santa Llúcia, there are stalls selling Christmas items, music, handicrafts, and handmade agricultural and food products.

Culture and History

The Campanar de Taradell is a Romanesque building from the 11th century, consecrated together with the Romanesque church on 14 April 1076. Castell de Taradell, also known as Castell de Can Boix, is a medieval structure adapted to the rocky recess of the hill on which it was built. Castell de Taradell has been documented since 893.

Casal Mont-rodon preserves a Romanesque section from the 12th century and was transformed into a Gothic manor house at the beginning of the 14th century. La Cabanya de la Roca was built in the 18th century, when the region's farmsteads specialised in grain production. L'Alzinar de la Roca displays more than 70 carriages, along with various harnesses and agricultural tools collected and salvaged by the Tonis de Taradell.

The Ecomuseu del Blat offers workshops and activities where visitors can experience agricultural work, tools and products, as well as try traditional rural professions and activities.

Paths and Circular Routes

The Ruta del Castell is a circular route that begins in the centre of Taradell, passes through the eastern part of the town and continues to Castell de Taradell. The PR-C 42 Sender de Taradell is a 14.80-kilometre circular route with 380 metres of elevation gain and a duration of four and a half hours.

The PR-C 42 Sender de Taradell passes through holm oak, oak and pine forests, as well as riparian vegetation along streams and small waterways. Pedres i Versos is a 1.2-kilometre literary and cultural-historical circular route through Taradell with a low level of difficulty.

Petjades de bandolers is a 5.9-kilometre circular route with a moderate level of difficulty. The route refers to a story that took place in 1845.

Landscape

At 867 metres, the Mirador de l'Enclusa is the highest point in the municipality of Taradell and offers wide-ranging views of the Plana de Vic, the Montseny Massif, Les Guilleries, the Pyrenees, as well as Castell and the town of Taradell.

Font Gran Park is located in the lower part of Taradell, on the Riera de Taradell. Its namesake fountain was built in 1790 and has seven metal spouts and a stone lion's head.
