Vilanova i la Geltrú has more than six kilometres of fine sandy beaches.

Culture

At the Far de Sant Cristòfol, Espai Far comprises three permanent exhibition areas: the Museu del Mar de Vilanova i la Geltrú, Espai Víctor Rojas and the Museu de Curiositats Marineres Roig Toqués.

Opened on 26 October 1884, the Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer is one of the first museum buildings in Catalonia specifically constructed for the public presentation of collections and access to culture.

The Biblioteca Museu Víctor Balaguer permanently displays a selection of the most important pieces from the historic collection of the Museo Nacional del Prado.

The Carnaval de Vilanova i la Geltrú has been documented since 1790, returned to the streets in 1955, and its revival was completed between 1976 and 1981.

In 2000, Josep Guinovart transformed the former watchtower on the seafront into the Torre Blava, a place paying tribute to the Mediterranean and its people.

The three floors of the Torre Blava are decorated with elements from the maritime world.

The Centre d'Art Contemporani La Sala is a production centre and accepts proposals for contemporary artistic work.

Built in 1798, the Masia d'en Cabanyes is considered an exceptional example of late-18th-century Catalan architecture.

The Centre d'Interpretació del Romanticisme Manuel de Cabanyes presents the history and heritage of the Cabanyes family and explains Romanticism as a cultural movement with clear traces in the Garraf region.

A visit to the Masia d'en Cabanyes includes admission to the Espai Goya, with a collection of twelve original prints from “Los Disparates” by Francisco de Goya.

At the Railway Museum of Catalonia, you can board locomotives, walk through passenger trains and watch audiovisual projections in a freight wagon.

During a visit to Can Papiol, you can see the music room, billiards room, grand ballroom, private rooms, bathrooms and dressing rooms.

At the Adarró archaeological site, you can visit the quarter of Iberian blacksmiths and the living area of the Roman villa built around 120 AD, which includes a broad corridor open towards the sea.

A tour through the quarter leads to the castle and the church and conveys the founding history of Vilanova i la Geltrú.

Vilanova i la Geltrú is a main station on the R2 Sud line, which connects Sant Vicenç de Calders with Barcelona Estació de França.

Coast and Water Sports

Ribes Roges Beach can be reached on foot, by scooter, bicycle, vehicle or city bus from anywhere in the city, or by tourist train during the summer season.

Estació Nàutica de Vilanova offers water sports as well as complementary activities such as horse riding, golf and Segways.
