Pruit – Sant Andreu and the Collsacabra Natural Area

Rupit i Pruit is part of the protected Collsacabra Natural Area, which is also listed as PEIN Collsacabra. Rocky cliffs characterize the area, along with dense forests, streams and waterfalls. This creates, within a compact area, a landscape of distinctive rock formations, wooded sections and water-rich natural features.

Nature

The protected area with its high-quality night sky is located on the Turó de Santa Magdalena. Accompanying measures include environmental education activities. Sustainable tourism focused on observing the natural nighttime environment is also promoted. The night sky and the educational activities therefore complement the landscape features of Collsacabra with a special nighttime aspect.

Routes

The circular route “Itinerari pels voltants de Rupit” passes through Pruit. The circular hiking route starts and ends at the tourist information office. Its route therefore connects Pruit with the surroundings of Rupit and forms a complete loop with the same starting and ending point.

Experiences

In the municipality of Rupit i Pruit, Farmlab offers a mobile scavenger hunt about the animals and nature of the surrounding area. Farmlab also offers a walk lasting approximately one hour. The two activities therefore provide different ways of engaging with the local flora and fauna.

In the municipality of Rupit i Pruit, Mas El Torrent offers a farm visit. The visit is presented theatrically and includes a tasting of local products. The offering therefore includes both a staged farm visit and a culinary connection to products from the surrounding area.

Culture and History

The parish of Sant Andreu de Pruit is documented in a parish list dated between 1025 and 1050, as well as in a donation from 1134. Both historical references point to the parish’s long-documented history.

Sant Andreu de Pruit forms part of an architectural ensemble. The small village center developed around the church and belongs to this ensemble.

Sant Andreu de Pruit has a Romanesque section dating from the 13th century. The church’s present structure dates back to alterations carried out in the 18th century. The side chapels were built during these alterations. The Baroque bell tower was also built during this period. The nave was extended. The Romanesque section, side chapels, bell tower and extended nave thus represent different construction phases at Sant Andreu de Pruit.

A fragment of the altarpiece from Sant Andreu de Pruit is located in the surroundings of Pruit. The fragment is kept and displayed at the Museu Episcopal de Vic.

Festivals

At the Festa Major de Pruit, the Goigs are sung in honor of Sant Andreu. Vermouth is served after the Mass at the Festa Major de Pruit. The celebration therefore combines singing in honor of the parish’s patron saint with a subsequent local tradition.
