Torrelletes – historic paths and festivals

Torrelletes has agricultural origins and was formerly known as Torrelles de Castellet. At the entrance to Torrelletes is the Mur veïnal de Torrelletes, a wall built using dry-stone construction. It is 181 m long and 1 m wide. There, it borders and supports the soil of a cultivated plot of land.

History

In the district of Torrelletes is the Societat Recreativa la Torrellenca. The district's residents founded it on 9 June 1908. The purpose of its foundation was to provide the association's members with a recreational area.

The history of the district therefore includes both its former name and specific community facilities and built heritage. The Societat Recreativa la Torrellenca is associated with a precisely dated founding event, while the Mur veïnal makes the historic agricultural use at the entrance to the district visible. Its length and width describe the same structure as its construction method and function.

Paths

The historic Camí de Torrelletes a Castellet connected the two districts. In some sections, the path's stone boundary walls have been preserved. The Camí de Torrelletes a Castellet was also known as the Camí de Sagrament and was used to take the deceased from Torrelletes to the cemetery in Castellet.

The Camí de la Riveta led from Torrelletes to the Pou de la Bovera. Residents used this path to fetch water for domestic use. The “Castells de Marca” route reaches Torrelletes in its third section. This section runs along the western side of the protected natural area of Parc del Foix.

The traditional path routes are associated with various local landmarks: the Camí de Torrelletes a Castellet connected the two districts, has been preserved in sections with its stone boundary walls, and also bore the name Camí de Sagrament. The Camí de la Riveta, by contrast, is associated with the Pou de la Bovera and the former water supply for domestic use. The “Castells de Marca” route reaches Torrelletes in its third section on the western side of the Parc del Foix.

Festivals

The Festa Major petita de Torrelletes is dedicated to Santa Bàrbara and lasted for a weekend. On Saturday afternoon, a “quinto” and a Xocolatada were part of the festival.

The Festa Major de Torrelletes took place on the third weekend of July. On Friday, it began with a conference about Torrelletes' past, followed by a dinner. On Sunday morning, the youngest residents of Torrelletes searched for the Tió. The festival then ended with a shared meal and a performance.

On Sunday, the Festa Major de Torrelletes ended with a street parade, a communal Botifarrada and a Havaneres concert.

The two festival names distinguish the smaller Festa Major petita from the Festa Major de Torrelletes. The smaller celebration focuses on the weekend dedicated to Santa Bàrbara, with the Saturday afternoon at its centre. The Festa Major de Torrelletes is scheduled for the third weekend of July and includes events from Friday to Sunday: the conference about the past and the dinner are followed on Sunday by the search for the Tió, a shared meal, a performance, the street parade, the Botifarrada and the Havaneres concert.
