Santpedor: Medieval Heritage, Trails and Water Landscapes

Culture and History

The Església de Sant Pere d'Or has a Gothic bell tower. This church also features a Romanesque portal. During a guided municipal tour of the Vila Medieval in Santpedor, the Palau dels Comtes-Reis is presented as a medieval heritage site. The Ruta del Timbaler del Bruc is a walking route through various places in Santpedor that commemorate the Timbaler del Bruc and the Battle of Bruc. The Ermita de Sant Francesc dates from the 13th century. Santpedor preserves the tradition and traces of the Camino de San Jaime.

Traditions and Events

The Fira de Sant Miquel is one of the most deeply rooted commercial and cultural events in Santpedor. The Fira de Sant Miquel has a history spanning eight centuries.

Routes and Trails

The PRC-131 – Voltejant Santpedor trail is a circular route of approximately 28 kilometres, starting and ending at the Aiguamoll de la Bòbila. The starting point at the Aiguamoll de la Bòbila is accessible by vehicle and has a car park. For approximately one kilometre, the trail follows the Sèquia. The three MTB routes around the Sèquia are circular trails; all of them run through the municipality of Santpedor and connect Santpedor with the settlements along the canal. The Pel riu d'Or fins a Burgueroles route passes through the agroforestry landscape of the Pla de Bages. This landscape includes dry-farmed fields, small stands of Mediterranean white pine and the Riu d'Or stream.

Nature and Water

The Tolls de la Riera de Bellver route passes an old restored grain mill located below the large Vallbona farmhouse, which is still in use. The Pel riu d'Or fins a Burgueroles route leads to a well-preserved brick kiln at a weir on the Riu d'Or. The Tolls de la Riera de Bellver route includes a series of waterfalls and pools covered with tufa formed by limestone and mosses. Since May 2011, the Aiguamoll de la Bòbila has featured an ornithological-literary trail with poems by Celdoni Fonoll.

At the Aiguamoll de la Bòbila, two distinct elements of the local landscape come together: it is the starting and finishing point of the approximately 28-kilometre PRC-131, and since May 2011 it has also been home to the ornithological-literary trail with poems by Celdoni Fonoll. The Sèquia also appears in two route contexts: the PRC-131 follows it for approximately one kilometre, while the three circular MTB trails connect Santpedor with the settlements along the canal. Around the Riu d'Or, agroforestry landscapes, historic traces of craftsmanship and water engineering finally meet: fields, stands of Mediterranean white pine and the stream are part of the Burgueroles route, as is the brick kiln at the weir.
