Molins de Rei: Culture, Nature and Fira de la Candelera
Culture and History
The Museo del Renacimiento is the first monographic museum in Catalonia dedicated to presenting the history, culture and society of the Renaissance. It is housed in the historic Palacio de Requesens, a building classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN). The museum displays around one hundred works of art and objects from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The Museu Municipal de Molins de Rei has an archaeological collection from Molins de Rei and the comarca, covering all periods. It also presents the local history, culture and crafts of the town. At Ca n'Ametller, located at Plaça Catalunya 25, the Museu Municipal has a space for temporary exhibitions, where exhibitions are scheduled throughout the year.
Different historical approaches therefore exist side by side in Molins de Rei: the Renaissance is presented in a single historic building through works of art and objects from two centuries, while the municipal collection extends the timeframe across all periods and incorporates local content.
The first documented references to Castellciuró date back to the 10th century, when it was a defensive fortress in the Olorda area. In 1949, Castellciuró was classified as a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional (BCIN).
Nature and Landscape
The Jardí botànic del CEM is located near the Masia Can Vilagut on an area of 1,500 square metres. It contains around 250 wild plant species representative of Mediterranean lowland forests.
For groups of 10 or more people, the Jardí botànic del CEM offers guided tours with commentary.
The Aiguamolls de Molins de Rei are artificially created wetlands on the left bank of the Llobregat River, in the immediate vicinity of its riverbed.
The natural area thus includes both a botanical garden with selected wild plant species and artificially created wetlands along the Llobregat. The places mentioned therefore differ in their design and their spatial relationship to the river landscape.
Routes
Molins de Rei offers four walking routes that run through the town's streets and explore its historical heritage, the feudal era and other special places.
The municipal project for the Camí de Sant Jaume includes urban signposting along the sections within the town through which the route passes.
There are eight signposts for hiking trails and paths in Molins de Rei as part of the signposting system in Baix Llobregat.
The range of routes thus combines urban routes with a signposted inner-city section of the Camí de Sant Jaume and the signposting for hiking trails and paths in Baix Llobregat.

Festivals
The Fira de la Candelera was first held in 1851 and was recognised as a traditional festival of national interest in 2002.
The Fira de la Candelera takes place on the first weekend of February. Tastings of a diverse selection of wines and cavas are offered there. There is also a traditional carters' breakfast called Coradella.
The festival tradition thus combines a historical beginning in the 19th century with its subsequent recognition and an annually specified date. In addition to the tastings, its traditional elements include Coradella, an explicitly named traditional breakfast for carters.
