Malla: Art Forest, Castle Ruins and Natural Area

Malla combines archaeological traces, an art forest, a designated area of natural interest and the Festa d'Estiu. The Museu de Malla houses archaeological remains found in the surrounding area. The museum is located in a former rectory. This connects the presentation of the finds with a historic building.

The remains of Malla's old castle are located in Castelló. These archaeological remains are not on public display. Visiting the Museu de Malla and learning about the castle ruins therefore involve two different locations and forms of presentation. In the Pratdesaba area, there is also an exhibition of agricultural tools and household equipment. Alongside archaeological topics, the focus there is also on objects from rural and domestic everyday life.

Culture and History

Several museums are located in the vicinity of Malla. The Museu Episcopal de Vic is a museum in this area. The Museu de l'art de la pell is also located nearby. In addition, there is the “Museum of Leather Artistry. A. Colomer Munmany Collection”, likewise a museum in the vicinity of Malla. The historic site “Roman temple of Vic” is also located near Malla.

Thus, the cultural sites mentioned range from the Museu de Malla with its archaeological remains to museums and a historic site in the Vic area. The castle ruins of Malla remain separate from these: they are located in Castelló and are not on public display.

Art and Events

The Bosc artístic del Prat Verd is a former Christmas tree plantation that has been transformed into an art forest. Its former use as a Christmas tree plantation is part of the site's history; the transformation describes its present-day form as an art forest. Several installations in the Bosc artístic del Prat Verd are used for holding events.

The site also includes an artists' village for various activities. These activities include an open workshop, a labyrinth and an amphitheatre. The art forest therefore comprises both facilities for events and named areas of the artists' village.

Nature and Landscape

The Quadra de Miramberg or Torrellebreta sector contains the only area in the municipality of Malla classified as an area of natural interest (P.E.I.N.). The peaks of la Pinassa, Grony de l'Oller, Fontfreda and el Castellar are located in the vicinity of Malla.

The area of natural interest and the four aforementioned peaks represent different landscape features around Malla. The names la Pinassa, Grony de l'Oller, Fontfreda and el Castellar each refer to a peak in the vicinity of Malla.

Traditions

The Festa d'Estiu takes place in July, on a Saturday after the harvest period in the fields has ended, and includes activities as well as an outdoor dinner. Its timing, location and programme connect the event with the agricultural cycle and spending time outdoors.
