Olost: Churches, Historic Routes and Local Festivals

Olost reveals its history in the town centre: Santa Maria d’Olost is distinguished by two identical octagonal bell towers. The present church is Neoclassical and dates from the late 18th century. Olost’s historic town centre also contains numerous houses with dated door lintels, mainly from the 18th and 19th centuries, as well as some from the 17th century.

Culture

The Ermita de Sant Adjutori was completed in 1717. It overlooks the valley and offers panoramic views of Olost.

The Centre d’Interpretació Perot Rocaguinarda presents the historical, literary and legendary dimensions of the bandit through texts, images, objects and audiovisual projections. The Centre also includes an escape-room experience for groups. Visits to the Centre d’Interpretació Perot Rocaguinarda require prior arrangement.

Nature

Olost lies in a small valley through which the Riera d’Olost flows. The forests consist mainly of oaks, black pines and Scots pines; there are also some areas of holm oaks. The Pantà de Rexach was built in 1945 and is more than 1.5 kilometres long.

Hiking and Routes

The Route de l’aigua amb història connects Olost and Santa Creu de Jutglar. Its course follows the historic Transversal and Central livestock trails. The route therefore runs not only between two places, but also along two traditional route connections.

The Saludable Ruta del Molí i les Hortes follows the Riera alongside traditional vegetable gardens and passes by the Molí de les Escases.

Cycling

The challenging BTT El Sorreigs mountain-bike route runs alongside the Espai d’Interès Natural del Sorreigs and passes through three municipalities. These municipalities are home to old mills, springs and pools, as well as a great diversity of animal and plant species. The route therefore connects the natural area with several historic and water-related landscape features.

Festivals and Crafts

The Fira del Formatge de Pastor i Llet Crua takes place on the first Sunday in October and offers raw-milk cheese made from cow’s, goat’s and sheep’s milk. The date is fixed to the first Sunday in October, while the cheeses on offer are made from three types of milk.

At Forn Sant Adjutori in Olost, visitors can learn how this type of bread is made. The Fira de la Transhumància includes food stalls, walks, a communal breakfast, workshops, games and music. In addition to cheese and bread, this festival therefore also features communal dining, physical activity, practical activities and entertainment.
