Lliçà d'Amunt: Trails, Forest and Cultural Heritage

The short PR hiking trails of Lliçà d'Amunt are circular routes that can be travelled on foot, by mountain bike or on horseback. They are marked by vertical posts and signs as well as horizontal white and yellow markings. The trail marking system thus combines different means of travel with a clearly recognisable combination of vertical and horizontal signs.

Trails and Routes

Lliçà d'Amunt has a network of rural and forestry paths suitable for hiking, cycling and horse riding. This network also includes the PR circular routes described, whose route lengths are given as the total distance. One of the circular hikes is 12 km in total. It runs through the plain of the Tenes River. Another circular hike is approximately 15.5 km long. It leads through Lliçà d'Amunt over hills, through forests and valleys. The kilometre figures refer in each case to the complete circuit and directly indicate the extent of the two signposted examples.

Nature

The Bassa de Can Dunyó lies beside the Tenes River. The wetland is of regional interest and has remarkable biodiversity, particularly with birds from aquatic habitats. Its connection with the river and its classification as a wetland are part of the characteristic description of this place. The Palaudàries Forest is the largest forest in Lliçà. It is a Mediterranean mixed forest with Aleppo pines, pine trees and holm oaks. Oaks grow in the hollows. The description of the forest thus includes both the predominant tree species and the distinctive vegetation in the lower-lying areas.

Culture and History

The church of Sant Esteve de Palaudàries has a large medieval bell tower. Sant Esteve de Palaudàries also has the only Torre comunidor in the Tenes Valley. The parish of Sant Julià de Lliçà d'Amunt is documented as such in 1014. The present-day chapel of Sant Baldiri was built in 1715.

The earliest documentary references to the church of Santa Justa and Santa Rufina date from 1101 and 1125. The Aplec de Sant Baldiri takes place on the Monday of the second week of Easter and at Pentecost. At the Safareig de La Mina, the water came directly from a mine and not from an irrigation channel. In these details, the churches, chapel, festival and historic water site each represent a separate aspect of the area's cultural character.
