Tagamanent: Cultural Heritage, Trails and Festivals

The monumental complex of Tagamanent is classified as a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN). It is located on a hill in the western part of Montseny Natural Park.

Culture and History

This monumental complex includes the Church of Santa Maria, a cemetery and the ruins of the rectory. It also includes a square, the former town hall and the remains of an inn.

Tagamanent Castle has been documented since as early as 945. The monumental complex on the hill was burned down and abandoned in 1936 during the Spanish Civil War.

The present-day Church of Santa Maria de Tagamanent was rebuilt after the 1448 earthquake. It was extensively remodelled between 1578 and 1619. Tagamanent’s cultural heritage also includes medieval churches and chapels.

Landscape and Trails

The access trail to Tagamanent hill begins at the El Bellver information point. The trail runs between cultivated terraces to Coll de Sant Martí.

The current access trail to Tagamanent hill is considered an accessible walking route for everyone. It offers panoramic views over the Congost Valley towards the Mediterranean.

Nature and Surroundings

A large part of the municipality of Tagamanent lies within Montseny Natural Park, where its historical heritage is set amid diverse flora, fauna and landscapes.

Museum and Everyday History

Casa Museu L'Agustí, an ethnological museum, is located on the Pla de la Calma. It conveys what rural life was like in this part of the Montseny in the mid-19th century.

The exhibits include stables for cows and sheep, the kitchen and the baking area. The dining room and bedrooms are also among the areas on display.

An audiovisual presentation explores life in the farmhouse and on the Pla de la Calma. For visits, please note that guided tours of Casa Museu L'Agustí are currently unavailable for technical reasons.

Festivals and Dates

The Aplec de festa major de Tagamanent is celebrated on the second Sunday in September. This aplec includes a mass and a poetry reading in the Church of Santa Maria de Tagamanent.

This is followed at Mas l'Agustí by a discussion, a communal meal, a tombola and a concert with dancing.

The Festa Major de Tagamanent includes a craft market, a communal dinner and a concert. It also features activities for children.

The Festa Major de Tagamanent has been held since approximately 1979.

At El Bellver, a tasting menu is offered featuring local products, produce from nearby gardens, homemade bread and farmers’ wine.
