Discover Borredá: Forests, Waterfalls and Historic Churches

Borredà lies in a landscape characterised by pine, holm oak and beech forests. There are also extensive areas of scrubland and pasture, while farmland accounts for only a small proportion. Water is also part of the character of the municipality: the Margansol and Merlès waterways are connected to the natural surroundings, which feature numerous springs, gorgs and waterfalls.

The Riera Margansol runs through the Gorg del Salt. The gorg has a waterfall approximately 20 metres high and a considerably large pool. The Cova de Rotgers is another natural feature. The cave has a 920-metre-long underground passage that descends from east to west. It is the longest cave in the Berguedà comarca and also the only cave in this comarca formed in gypsum.

Other destinations include La Pobla De Lillet, Caldes D'estrac, Sant Vicenç de Castellet, Llinars Del Vallès, Igualada, Sant Iscle De Vallalta, Canet De Mar and Castellví De Rosanes.

Routes

The Estovalles de Borredà comprises five excursions with different levels of difficulty. GPS tracks in GPX and KMZ format are available for all five routes. In addition, 15 route tracks have been published for the area around Borredà. One of them leads from Borredà to Sant Sadurní de Rotgers, following the old route from Borredà into the valley where the church stands. Before setting out on a hike, the current trail conditions and the route data applicable in each case should be checked; the different levels of difficulty and the available track formats are among the details to consider when preparing.

Culture

The municipality of Borredà is home to various examples of Romanesque and Baroque architecture. The first construction of Santa Maria de Borredà is mentioned in the year 886. Sant Sadurní de Rotgers first appears in 888 under the name Palau Rodegari and was renovated in the 12th century.

Sant Sadurní de Rotgers is a small single-nave building with a slightly pointed vault and a semicircular apse at the east end. Visits are scheduled for the first Sunday of the month at 10, 11 and 12 a.m., as well as outside these times by appointment. For a visit outside the fixed times, the current appointment arrangements should be checked in advance. For the monthly visiting times, the individual hours are listed separately, whereas an appointment involves a different form of scheduling.
