La Ràpita: Festivals, Architectural Heritage and Trails

The Festa Major de la Ràpita takes place in La Ràpita every year around the first weekend of August in honour of Sant Domènec de Guzmán. The festival is organised by the Centre Cultural i Recreatiu Rapitenc, with the support of the municipal administration.

The Festa del Most de la Ràpita was founded in 1973 on the initiative of a group of young people from the town. It takes place in the first half of November.

Culture

Sant Domènec is a historicist church in La Ràpita built in 1935. The Escoles Velles de la Ràpita follow rationalist principles of school architecture in the layout of the spaces, the orientation of the classrooms, the building structure, the open spaces, as well as in construction quality and execution. The architectural ensemble consisting of the church and the schools defines the centre of La Ràpita more strongly than any other surrounding area.

The town centre is therefore characterised by two different architectural influences: Sant Domènec was built as a historicist church, while the Escoles Velles apply rationalist principles to spaces, classrooms, the building structure and open spaces. Construction quality and execution are also among the stated characteristics of the school ensemble.
