Culture

In Santa Eugènia De Berga stands the Església romànica de Santa Eugènia de Berga, which was designated a Bé d'Interès Nacional (BCIN) in 1931 during the Second Republic. Its vaulted single-nave church has three apses opening onto the transept. An octagonal drum rises above the crossing and supports a three-storey bell tower.

The church has been documented since 917, was rebuilt around 1050 and reconsecrated in 1173. Màgic Món del tren is dedicated to collecting, model building and the world of miniature railways. The facility is housed in a modern building adapted for all visitors, with an area of 1,000 square metres spread over three floors.

The Fest dels Tonis includes a communal dinner, a coachmen's breakfast and, as its main event, the dels tres tombs procession.

History

The Ruta urbana pel municipi begins at Plaça Nova, by the parish church and opposite the former town hall. The entrance portal of the former town hall comes from the courtyard of the disappeared Dominican convent.

The route passes houses dating from the mid-18th century, including Can Segimon, with a door and a window featuring stone lintels and surrounds, and Cal Cisteller, with its original stone surrounds and an 18th-century lintel preserved.

In Carrer del Call, visitors can see two terracotta plaques documenting a long local tradition of artisanal clayworking. The plaque at Can Cantarell bears the year 1793, the letters IHS and the inscription “Joan Cardona ma fecit”; the plaque at Can Godayol is of the same type and dates from the same year.

Nature

The Sala-d'Heures area includes a holm oak forest typical of the Plana de Vic, with downy oak and boxwood (Buxus sempervirens). In the plain, Sala-d'Heures preserves one of the few remaining examples of this holm oak–boxwood ecosystem.

The Font del Paradís is located in the Sala-d'Heures forest and was built between 1925 and 1935 as a stone fountain with a rectangular body and a semicircular upper section.

Paths

The PR C-93 trail begins at the Romanesque church of Santa Eugènia de Berga, passes the Font Rodona and crosses the Santa Eugènia stream via a footbridge.

The former Vilatorta airfield from the Spanish Civil War is now a 9 km hiking route running through the municipalities of Sant Julià de Vilatorta, Calldetenes and Santa Eugènia de Berga. The route to the historic Vilatorta airfield leads to various protective structures and other aviation-related facilities, including a powder magazine and a hangar.

The PR C-93 trail reaches the Sala d'Heures plain beside the reservoir and crosses its dam. The reservoir collects water from the Vilalleons stream; this water was channelled to the Sala d'Heures estate.

Panorama

The Puigsacost ridge offers sweeping panoramic views over the northern part of the Plana de Vic.
