The Museu d'Art del Bolet in Montmajor was established from a donation of works by ceramic artist Josefina Vilajosana. Its distinctly educational character introduces visitors, both experts and beginners, to the world of mushrooms and their special features. In this way, the museum combines the ceramic works from the donation with an accessible presentation of knowledge about mushrooms.
Culture
The Mare de Déu de la Torreta hermitage was built at the end of the 16th or beginning of the 17th century. The Mare de Déu de la Torreta preserves 44 votive panels. They are made of wood or painted canvas and tell of illnesses, wars and the concerns of people from the surrounding area.
In nearby Santa Maria de Sorba, 8 km from Montmajor, the present-day church partly uses the southern wall of an earlier Romanesque church. The martyrium is the oldest part of the complex. The rotunda is almost square on the outside and measures 5.25 × 5.75 m. Inside, it is circular and covered by a hemispherical dome 4 m in diameter. The complex therefore brings together the earlier Romanesque church, the martyrium as its oldest part and the rotunda with its different shape.
In nearby Sant Esteve del Pujol de Planès, the decorated side apses with arcades and bands have been preserved.
Tradition
The Fira Tocats dels Bolets is an annual fair dedicated to mushrooms. At the Tastabolet on Plaça del Mercat, the Fira offers various regional tapas featuring mushrooms as the main ingredient. During the Fira, stalls selling products from the surrounding area and handmade goods line the street.
The Mercat i tradició celebration, held on 11 September, revives the market activity and stalls from its beginnings in the 1920s. Montmajor: mercat i tradició features historic clothing, poultry, stalls selling handicraft products, demonstrations of traditional crafts, gatherings of giants' groups and a street procession.
On the last Sunday in April, an afternoon dance with the giants of Montmajor takes place at the Mare de Déu de la Torreta. The traditional Ball dels Cascavells is also performed. Thus, two of the events mentioned take place at different times of the year: the dance in April and Mercat i tradició on 11 September.
Hiking
In nearby Sorba, the A Sorba per les rieres de Gargallà i l'Aigua d'Ora route leads through fields and forests as a circular hiking trail. The route follows the Gargallà and Aiguadora streams.
The El Pujol de Planès i la riera de Navel route in Montmajor begins at the designated car park. It is located next to the Sant Esteve del Pujol de Planès hermitage.
An on-demand transport service operates between Montmajor and Berga. Use must be requested no later than 8 p.m. on the previous working day.
