La Pobla de Claramunt: Church, Paper Mills and Nature

La Pobla de Claramunt is home to the neoclassical Església de la Mare de Déu de la Llet. Its foundation stone was laid in July 1789, and the church was consecrated in September 1793; inside, visitors can see a Romanesque statue of the Mare de Déu de la Llet from the 13th century as well as a Gothic image of the Sant Crist.

The permanent exhibition “Arqueologia medieval a l'Anoia” can be seen at Castell de Claramunt. On 23 July 2026, Castell de Claramunt was temporarily closed following a forest fire while maintenance work and measures to improve access were being carried out.

Culture and History

The restored Ajuntament Vell on Plaça de la Vila has three stone arcades and now houses the town library, the photo archive and the studios of Televisió la Pobla.

Cal Marí was the ancestral home of the Coca family, who worked as farmers and paper makers between the 13th and 18th centuries. The house has Renaissance-style windows.

Plaça de les Tres Fonts is one of the town's most distinctive squares; the first houses were built around it after the flood of 1344 destroyed Pobla Vella. The historic centre is also home to the former public washhouse between Plaça de les Tres Fonts and the Subirats neighbourhood.

Molí de l'Estrassa, also known as Colònia Vallès, is an 18th-century paper mill with Modernist elements added during renovations in the 1920s. Its façade features a Modernist balcony with trencadís, which was also added in the 1920s.

Molí de ca l'Almiralló is an 18th-century paper mill known for its openwork windows, which are typical of such buildings. Molí de Dalt de cal Coca is a 16th-century paper mill and one of the oldest mills in the les Figueres neighbourhood.

The Ruta dels Espais de Memòria de la Pobla de Claramunt focuses on repression and violence in the Republican hinterland and passes by seven memorial sites in La Pobla de Claramunt.

Nature and Trails

The natural surroundings of La Pobla de Claramunt include mountains and vegetation typical of the Mediterranean climate, with pine forests and extensive cultivated areas.

The Ruta de la Muntaya dels Nens is a playful cultural circular trail with six zones along the path to Castell de Claramunt.

The Ruta de la Muntaya dels Nens offers places to rest, have breakfast, enjoy a picnic and learn, as well as a typical dry-stone farmers' hut with a circular floor plan and a green roof.

The Ruta de la Muntaya dels Nens also features protected fossils embedded in the rock; some of them are more than a handspan in size.

Events

The Aplec del Castell takes place every year on 1 May at Castell de Claramunt and includes the climb to the fortress, playful cultural activities for the whole family, as well as a shared breakfast and lunch.

Anoia Folk is a festival of traditional roots music held on the second Saturday in July at Castell de Claramunt.
