Coast and Port
Badalona has almost 5 km of coastline and nine beaches. These coastline and beach figures provide concrete reference points when planning a stay by the sea. Badalona’s beaches are very close to the city’s urban and commercial centre. The Passeig Marítim runs between Badalona’s beaches and the railway line. The Passeig Marítim promenade is suitable for walking, skating, relaxing and eating. Nautical activities such as surfing, windsurfing, kayaking, sailing, rowing and snorkelling are offered at the Port de Badalona. This means that different uses coexist by the sea: the promenade offers exercise, leisure and dining, while the port represents the nautical side with activities on and in the water.
History and Culture
Beneath the Museu de Badalona lies a 3,400 m² archaeological site with remains of the Roman city. At the Sant Jeroni de la Murtra monastery, Christopher Columbus presented the discovery of the new continent to the Catholic monarchs Isabel and Fernando, while Fernando recovered there from a long period of convalescence. The Cremada del Dimoni is one of the most emblematic events of the Festes de Maig in Badalona, which are celebrated around 11 May. The Roman past is therefore located beneath the present-day museum; the monastery’s history also refers to Columbus, Isabel and Fernando, as well as Fernando’s long period of convalescence.
Park and Cuisine
The Can Solei i de Ca l'Arnús Park has historical, artistic and landscape value and is located in the centre of Badalona. The park has areas for children’s leisure and environmental education, as well as a signposted botanical trail with more than 100 different native plant species. Badalona’s traditional cuisine includes a fish stew made with fish, potatoes and allioli. It is closely linked to the city’s fishing past. Fish, potatoes and allioli are the explicitly named ingredients of the dish; its connection to the fishing past places it within the history of local cuisine.
