Rellinars – Dry Stone, Springs and Hiking Trails

Dry-stone structures are among the most characteristic landscape features of Rellinars; they include huts, terrace walls, wine vats and water tanks. These structures are associated with viticulture between the 18th and 20th centuries.

Hiking and Cycling Routes

Rellinars is a starting point for mountain-biking routes. The GR-5 also runs through the village and supplements the locally named trails with another signposted route. La Pedra Seca and El Racó de Les Fonts are signposted hiking trails in Rellinars. Els 3 Monts is a signposted route connected with Rellinars.

The Ruta de la Pedra Seca is a 4,200-metre circular trail. A large part of this route runs through the Massís de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l'Obac. The Massís has been protected by a special plan since 1972 and was declared a natural park in 1987. The specific length given for the Ruta de la Pedra Seca provides a clear basis for planning your own hike, while its designation as a circular trail directly identifies the route format. The SL-C 57 La pedra seca circular trail begins at the Punt d'Informació de Rellinars. The SL-C 55 A la font de Carlets circular trail passes by the Punt d'Informació de Rellinars. On the route to Les Fonts, the sequence describes the trail near the parish church via the Camí de les Cases and mostly along the Torrent del Vetllador to the Balma de l'Andaló. This trail was signposted by the Diputació de Barcelona.

Springs and Landscape

Rellinars has numerous springs and streams. In Rellinars, pine and holm-oak forests have overgrown former vineyards.

Around twenty water outlets have been counted at Les Fonts de Rellinars. Les Fonts de Rellinars comprises natural water outlets whose water was diverted; the surrounding area was designed as a picnic area.

Les Fonts de Rellinars can be reached via a path signposted by the Diputació de Barcelona. It begins near the parish church, follows the Camí de les Cases and runs mostly along the Torrent del Vetllador to the Balma de l'Andaló.

Culture and History

The knowledge and techniques for building dry-stone walls are inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The inscription refers to the building knowledge and the corresponding techniques, not to a single wall or individual structure.

The Balmes obrades were permanently inhabited shelters in the Serra de l'Obac.
