Begues: Hiking Trails, Nature Park and Cultural Heritage

Begues offers various hiking and cycling routes focusing on culture, history or landscapes. Almost 3,000 hectares of Begues municipality are part of the Parc del Garraf.

Nature and Trails

From the La Clota plain, the circular route “Pel Parc del Garraf” leads into Garraf Natural Park. The natural park is therefore both part of the municipality and the destination of a named route.

The “La plana de Can Sadurní” health trail is 5.5 kilometres long, has an elevation difference of 50 metres and takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. It runs westwards through woodland, cultivated land and vineyards; along the route, numerous vineyard huts built from dry-stone walls can be seen. Thus, this route combines specific trail data with a landscape of woodland, fields, vineyards and traditional dry-stone construction. Before setting out, travellers can check the current trail conditions in advance. The approximate duration and elevation difference can be used to plan a day trip.

Culture and History

The urban walking tour through Begues leads to special buildings and structures that are representative of the municipality. Information panels with QR codes complement the tour, linking the architectural sites with additional digital information.

The first documentary mention of the Església vella de Sant Cristòfol dates from 981. At the same time, the church appears to correspond to the second Romanesque style or the transitional style of the 12th and 13th centuries.

The two crosses have different historical associations: the Creu del Coll de Begues is considered the oldest dated cross in Catalonia, while the Creu de Terme is a copy of the Gothic original, which is dated to 1312.

The Camí Ral from Barcelona to Vilafranca, also known as the Via Mercadera, is a medieval route that passes through the municipality of Begues.

The Cova de Can Sadurní is one of the most significant prehistoric sites in Catalonia and the eastern Mediterranean region. It contains a documented stratigraphic sequence spanning 12,000 years to date, comprising 10 major cultural periods and 34 specific episodes.

Events and Local Topics

The programme for the Festa Major 2026 included a Correfoc with the Cuca Fera, the Diables and the Timbalers de Begues at 10 p.m. on 25 July.

The Fira NaturaMel focuses on bees, biodiversity and apicultural education and public outreach.

The Begues Beer Fest on Saturday, 13 June, was scheduled to include beer tastings from 6 p.m.; local food and drink establishments were also due to take part. For events held at a specified time, it is advisable to check the date and start time again in the respective event programme before travelling.
