Rubí’s modernist cooperative winery, El Celler, is part of the modernist and industrial heritage of Vallès Occidental. El Celler organises free monthly guided tours of all areas of the unique modernist building designed by Cèsar Martinell. The tours explain the building’s winemaking past and show its transformation into a cultural institution today.

Culture and history

The Església de Sant Pere is a Romanesque church and an important example of medieval art in Rubí. Its construction phases range from the 11th to the 19th century. Archaeological excavations suggest that the church was built over a small Palaeochristian or Visigothic temple. The Baroque altarpiece was carved by Rafael Solanic. The Castell de Rubí contains two Gothic windows from the 15th century. A contemporary graffito depicting a ship can also be seen there.

The Museu Municipal Castell (MMUC) houses the permanent exhibition “Rubí, l’evolució d’un poble”, which presents the history of Rubí around the Riera. The Ermita de Sant Muç preserves popular paintings from the 18th century. Their scenes depict the life of the saint. Most of Rubí’s modernist houses and buildings were constructed between 1910 and 1925. Some masías, or traditional farmhouses, still remain in Rubí, recalling the town’s agricultural past.
