Ripollet: River Landscape, Cultural Heritage and Festivals

In Ripollet, the Molí d’en Rata is a former hydraulic grain mill that was restored in 2005. The mill used the Ripoll River as its energy source. The CIP Molí d’en Rata presents Ripollet’s cultural heritage through exhibitions, walks, guided tours and other activities. Every year, it takes part in the European Heritage Days.

Culture and History

A prehistoric settlement dating from the end of the Bronze Age and the beginning of the Iron Age was discovered beneath Parc dels Pinetons. It is dated to approximately 800 to 1,100 BC and comprised around 90 huts. A mural in Ripollet is dedicated to Josep Anselm Clavé and commemorates his cultural and choral legacy. Clavé was a Catalan politician, composer and writer. He founded the Catalan choral movement and promoted the associational movement.

Espai Maria Aurèlia Capmany is a cultural space and outdoor reading area in the courtyard of the town hall next to Ripollet’s municipal library.

River Landscape and Trails

The Ripoll and Sec rivers form Ripollet’s largest and most important ecological system and serve an important function as an ecological link. The river ecosystem of the Ripoll and Sec covers approximately 8 percent of Ripollet’s area.

The Anella Verda is a 6.94-kilometre circular route that starts and ends at the Poliesportiu Municipal. It runs along the Ripoll River and connects with Parc dels Pinetons. The circular route is fully signposted. The signage includes information on distance and elevation gain, indicates connections with other circular routes and marks cultural heritage sites.

Parc dels Pinetons includes a more natural area that reflects the surrounding landscape. Casa Natura is located between Parc dels Pinetons and the road to Santiga, next to Torrent Tortuguer; the activities mainly take place outdoors.

Parc de la Xemeneia is located on the former site of the facilities of Can Buxó Mill. A brick chimney that is still visible stands in the park and gives it its name. In Parc d’Anselm Clavé, the Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis) is the predominant tree species; there are 18 specimens there.

Festivals and Events

Ripollet’s Corpus Christi festival is recognised as a festival of tourist interest. During the Corpus festival, floral ornaments made by residents, schools and local associations decorate the streets of Ripollet’s old town.

In 2026, Ripollet celebrated the 131st edition of the Festa de Sant Antoni Abat, one of the municipality’s oldest celebrations. The Festa de Sant Antoni Abat is recognised as a festival of local tourist interest. At this Festa, the Tres Tombs procession was the central programme event.

The Teatre Auditori del Mercat Vell regularly offers a children’s programme featuring theatre, music and dance on the first Sunday afternoon of each month from October to May. The Jugatecambiental at Parc dels Pinetons offers activities involving scooters, roller skates or bicycles that focus on sustainable mobility.
