L’Hospitalet de Llobregat: Discover Culture and Urban History

The Fundació Arranz-Bravo, a centre for contemporary art, is located on the Tecla Sala grounds in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. The institution promotes the work of the artist Eduard Arranz-Bravo and supports the contemporary work of young artists.

Culture and History

The Fundació Arranz-Bravo collection comprises 340 works by Eduard Arranz-Bravo. The Centre d’Art Tecla Sala is housed in a former 19th-century textile factory. Guided tours are offered at the former Tecla Sala factory, which is now a cultural centre. It houses the Centre d’Art, the Biblioteca Central, TPK – Art i Pensament Contemporani, the Centre d’Estudis de L’Hospitalet (CEL’H), and the Fundació Arranz-Bravo.

The permanent exhibition at the Museu d’Història de L’Hospitalet explains the motives and circumstances that shaped the city, focusing not on monumental construction projects. Casa Espanya is a permanent venue of the Museu de l’Hospitalet, which is primarily dedicated to the city’s history. Casa Espanya houses the permanent exhibitions “L’Hospitalet, un indret, una història” and “L’Hospitalet i la memòria democràtica”.

Can Sumarro is located in a 16th-century farmhouse surrounded by gardens and comprises two buildings: the former farmhouse and the barn. The institution is considered a focal point of cultural and social life in the centre of L’Hospitalet. Its collection specialises in Spanish film; outdoor activities take place on the grounds.

Tours

The “El món de Puig i Gairalt a Collblanc” tour follows a walking route through Collblanc and La Torrassa and focuses on the work of the architect Puig i Gairalt.

“L’Hospitalet industrial” is a walking tour through Centre and Sant Josep; it focuses on the city’s industrial heritage, presented through the history of former factories from the mid-20th century.

“La vila vella de L’Hospitalet” is a walking tour through the old town that explores the city’s origins and its former agricultural context, including winegrowing and grain cultivation.

The “Les dones de L’Hospitalet” route addresses women’s contribution to the creation of the city and passes through the new settlement areas from Santa Eulàlia to Bellvitge.

The “Transició democràtica a L’Hospitalet” route is an urban tour that begins in Collblanc and La Torrassa and ends in Bellvitge; streets and buildings illustrate important events in local history from 1960 to 1980.

City Life

Mercat de Collblanc is a market in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat designed by the architect Ramón Puig and built in 1932. It can be reached via metro lines 5 and 9 and bus lines LH1, LH12, and D20.

Teatre Joventut is temporarily closed due to extensive renovation work.
