Sant Feliu Sasserra: Witchcraft, History and Circular Routes

At the Centre Interpretació de la Bruixeria, the first area explores the beliefs and practices of folk witchcraft, protective practices against this phenomenon, and the customs associated with it at that time.

A multimedia presentation based on real events addresses the persecution, torture and death of women accused of witchcraft.

Culture

The CÒDEX XVII adventure experience combines a visit to the Centre Interpretació de la Bruixeria with a game and lasts 2.5 hours.

The historical and cultural circular route presents the tangible and intangible heritage of Sant Feliu Sasserra using QR codes that can be read with a mobile device; it is complemented by a video report introducing visitors to the history of Sant Feliu Sasserra.

The Exposició de la Sotsvegueria in the town hall includes an audiovisual presentation about the historical importance of Sant Feliu Sasserra, particularly the period when the town was the capital of the Sotsvegueria.

The Casa del Consell i Jurats del Lluçanès was built in 1611 to house the seat of the Cúria of the Sotsvegueria del Lluçanès, and its main façade features a Renaissance-style composition.

The Romanesque portal of the parish church of Sant Feliu is located on the south façade and has a semicircular-arched doorway with two stepped archivolts. It preserves the portal design with which this religious building was adorned in the 12th century.

Between 1618 and 1648, 23 women were put on trial in Sant Feliu Sasserra; at least 6 of them were executed.

The Fira de les Bruixes has been held on All Saints’ Day in Sant Feliu Sasserra since 2000. It fills the streets and squares with stalls selling handicrafts and esoteric products, while theatrical performances recreate witches’ gatherings, witch trials, and the sentencing and execution of a witch.

The Treure Ball consists of 32 walking steps and 32 jumping steps; on the 16th beat, the dancer holds the bouquet over the young woman’s head.

Hiking

The Itinerari del Serrat de les Forques circular route is 2,400 metres long and begins and ends at the Centre Interpretació de la Bruixeria.

The Itinerari del Serrat Llobater circular route also begins and ends at the Centre Interpretació de la Bruixeria. It follows a narrow forest path and optionally continues to Serrat Llobater at an altitude of 695 metres, the highest point in the municipality, offering sweeping panoramas of Montserrat, Montseny and the Pyrenees.

The Itinerari Balma de les Pastorelles circular route passes through forests, cultivated fields and pastureland.

The Itinerari cruïlla del Pujalt circular route follows a level path with good views and is suitable for all visitor groups. It passes through Pla de Moixons, a former resting place for transhumant herds.

Landscape

The Glorieta Vilaclara stands on Serrat de les Forques and offers views of Sant Feliu Sasserra, Oristà and Prats de Lluçanès.

The area around Serrat de les Forques and Puig Sobirà includes two elevated viewpoints with panoramic views of Sant Feliu Sasserra and its surroundings.
