Culture and festivals

Berga hosts the main events of Patum every year during Corpus Week, from Wednesday to Sunday, in the city. At the Casa de la Patum, visitors can learn more about La Patum and see the figures that represent the festival.

Els Elois is an old guild festival of the Confraria dels Elois in Berga, which was associated with the vast majority of the city's guilds and professions. The first record of this guild dates from 1379. Els Elois includes a Sunday horse procession that starts at Plaça de Santa Magdalena and stops at the steps of Sant Pere for a blessing. Els Elois ends at Plaça Sant Joan with the traditional Ballet de Déu.

Landscape and trails

The Santuari de Santa Maria de Queralt is located at an altitude of 1,200 metres and offers expansive views over central Catalonia, including the peaks of Ripollès, the plains of Solsonès, Montseny and Montserrat.

The Camí dels Bons Homes is a signposted international long-distance hiking trail between Berga and Foix. It is designated GR 107 and marked with white-and-red trail signs. Cycling is possible as a visitor activity in Berga's natural surroundings. An extensive network of trails crosses the Berga area.

History and buildings

Berga's Old Town dates back to the 14th century and includes architectural elements that form part of the country's historical and cultural heritage. The Portal de Santa Magdalena is the only surviving one of the seven city gates that once existed in Berga.

The Castell de Sant Ferran is located at the highest point of Berga. Its interior cannot be visited; however, the area outside offers views of Berga's streetscape.

The Church of Sant Francesc de Berga is Neogothic in its present form and is classified as a cultural asset of local interest. The Church of Sant Joan is a Romanesque religious building from the 13th century with Gothic and Baroque elements added later. The Capella de la Pietat dates from the 17th century.

The Fonts del Vall is a historic spring in Berga protected as a cultural asset of local interest. Next to the Font de la Pietat is a medieval washhouse with a mural depicting the history of Berga's washhouses. The Molí de la Gratella is one of Berga's historic grain mills.

Nature and regional products

A second exhibition room at the Espai d'Interpretació de la Natura del Berguedà showcases the major vegetation zones of Berguedà and the vertebrate fauna characteristic of them. The Espai d'Interpretació de la Natura del Berguedà also includes an exhibition on geology and palaeontology.

The Festa dels Bolets includes mushroom-picking competitions and an exhibition of craft and agri-food products related to the world of mushrooms. In Berga and throughout the comarca, cured meats, cheese and Mató are produced by hand.

Getting there

Berga can be reached from Barcelona via the C-16 road, known as the Eix del Llobregat.
