Sant Boi de Lluçanès: Churches, Fossils and Breadmaking Tradition

Construction of the Església de Sant Boi de Lluçanès began in 1763 and was completed in 1776. Inside, the church preserves eight original altarpieces. An appointment is required for a visit; the telephone number 670 20 51 65 is available for this purpose. The church therefore combines a clearly dated construction history with surviving furnishings from its original design.

The Museu de Fòssils contains approximately 5,000 specimens from around 70 different species. The collection predominantly consists of marine fossils originating from sedimentary rock. They are between 30 and 35 million years old. The information on the collection’s size, diversity of species, origin and age describes a collection in which both the number of specimens and their geological classification are apparent.

History

The Església de Sant Miquel de Gallifa is a Romanesque building from the 11th century and has been well restored. It is located near Mas de Gallifa at the foot of the Munts.

The Església de Sant Salvador de Bellver is also a Romanesque church. It stands on the northeastern edge of the municipal area of Sant Boi de Lluçanès, on a ridge overlooking the northern part of the Plana de Vic. The church is therefore not in the town centre, but on the edge of the municipal area and geographically associated with the Plana de Vic.

Nature

The Roure de la Senyora is a protected monumental tree. It is located near Mas El Vilar and has been catalogued by the Generalitat de Catalunya. The tree is thus characterised both by its monumental status and by its protection and cataloguing.

South of Sant Boi de Lluçanès lies the Font de la Prada. The Font de la Prada is accessible by a good road and is surrounded by lush vegetation.

Local Tradition

In the centre of Sant Boi de Lluçanès is the Forn de pa cal Pujals. There, the traditional technique of baking wood-fired bread for Pa de Sant Boi is preserved. The breadmaking tradition has been passed down from generation to generation. The cal Pujals oven was built in the 1940s. The site therefore preserves both a specific baking technique and the name of the bread, as well as the history of the oven used to make it.

Activity

The Ruta-Joc dels Bolets is designed as a QR code game. Its format includes questions, puzzles and challenges. The digital game element and the three types of tasks mentioned are integral parts of the design of this route.
