Culture and Landscape

Castell de Claramunt rises on a hill overlooking the Òdena Basin. The fortress preserves the classic structure of a 12th-century castle, with a residential area and a lower economic and service area. Following the forest fire of 23 July 2026, Castell de Claramunt remained temporarily closed while the access routes were maintained and adapted to ensure visitors’ safety; no structural damage occurred to the fortress.

Religious Buildings

The Església de la Mare de Déu de la Llet is a Neoclassical church; its foundation stone was laid in July 1789, and it was consecrated in September 1793. The main altar is dominated by a Romanesque wooden statue from the 13th century, which came from the castle and was installed in 1230. The church also contains a Gothic image of the Sant Crist, as well as the retables of the Roser and Sant Sebastià.

The Capella de la Santíssima Trinitat was founded in 1380 by Ramon Muset as a private chapel. From 1463 until the consecration of the new neighbouring parish church of Santa Maria in 1793, it served as the parish church of La Pobla de Claramunt. The Campanar Vell preserves the base of an octagonal bell tower belonging to the former Capella de la Santíssima Trinitat.

Nature and Trails

The Ruta de la Muntanya dels Nens is a recreational and cultural circular trail divided into six sections that runs along the route to the castle. Along this route stands a typical dry-stone farm hut with a circular floor plan and a planted roof. The Muntanya de la Llobreia lies in the eastern part of the municipality of La Pobla de Claramunt and features typical Mediterranean vegetation with pine trees and scrubland. The eastern side of the Muntanya dels Mollons is frequently used by climbers.

Les Tres Fonts is a spring with three outlets at one of the highest points of Pobla Nova. Numerous traditional events, dances and concerts take place in July during the Festa Major in Plaça dels Països Catalans. The Aplec del Castell, also known as Aplec de la Santa Creu, takes place on 1 May and includes breakfast, Mass, the blessing of the municipality and a Sardana dance.

Houses, Mills and Local History

The restored building of the Ajuntament Vell on Plaça de la Vila now houses the municipal library, the photo archive and the studios of Televisió la Pobla; three stone arcades have also been preserved there. Cal Coca, also known as Cal Marí and Casa Coca, was the Coca family’s manor house in La Pobla de Claramunt. Cal Talleret is a Noucentista manor house with a symmetrical façade defined by four large Doric columns. Cal Fuster de les Figueres is a wine-growing estate documented in the 18th century, with predecessors dating back to the 14th century.

Molí de ca l'Almiralló is an 18th-century mill with openwork windows typical of buildings of this type. Molí de Baix de cal Coca is a 16th-century mill located where the waters of the Riera de Carme and the Anoia River meet. Molí de l'Estrassa is an 18th-century mill, also known as Colònia Vallès, which was remodelled with Modernista elements in the 1920s.

Molí del Jeroni, also known as Molí del Janer or Gener, has been documented as a grain mill since the 16th century and was later converted into a paper mill. Molí de Dalt has been documented since the late 17th century as one of four mills whose ownership was acknowledged by the Coca family. La Fàbrica Nova was an industrial complex specialising in umbrella manufacturing between 1925 and 1930.

Memory and Tradition

The Ruta dels Castells de Frontera also includes Castell de la Pobla de Claramunt; these castles are closely linked to the Marca Hispànica. The Ruta dels Espais de Memòria de la Pobla de Claramunt passes through seven sites of remembrance commemorating the social and political life before 18 July 1936, the military uprising and its immediate consequences, the violence in the Republican rearguard, the presence of the military leadership of the People’s Army in La Pobla, as well as the Republican defeat and the subsequent Francoist repression. The Trobada de Puntaires is an established event in La Pobla de Claramunt’s cultural calendar and keeps a centuries-old bobbin-lace tradition alive.
