Sant Adrià de Besòs: Besòs Estuary, Beaches and Culture
Sant Adrià de Besòs combines the Besòs Estuary with Mediterranean beaches, a distinctive industrial history and vibrant local culture. When choosing a holiday apartment in Sant Adrià de Besòs, you will find a variety of opportunities for shared discoveries here: places of remembrance, special buildings, art in the urban space, nature and a festival steeped in tradition are closely connected as themes.
Culture and history around your holiday apartment
An important cultural site is the Masia de Can Serra. Since 20 November 2004, it has housed the Museu d’història de la immigració de Catalunya, or MhiC for short. Les Tres Xemeneies de la Central Tèrmica del Besòs are another defining landmark. The complex consists of three boiler and chimney buildings as well as a turbine building, and is 200 metres high in total. Since 2016, Les Tres Xemeneies have been protected as a Bé Cultural d'Interès Local (BCIL).
The Pont dels Passadors also tells the story of changes along the Besòs. It was built between 1942 and 1944, replacing an iron bridge constructed in 1885 that was swept away in a flood in 1937. Bosc de columnes also adds an artistic accent to the urban space: the project comprises approximately 400 columns, each around five metres high and with a circumference of 2.85 metres. It was started in 2016 by the city council together with the El Generador, Art i Creació Cultural association and is part of the HOP programme for dance and urban culture. The project to revitalise the Refugi antiaeri de la placeta Macià (RapM) includes an inclusive museological design for communicating remembrance.
Festivals and shared experiences
The Festa dels Passadors takes place every year in mid-February, on the weekend closest to 12 February, the feast day of Saint Eulàlia. On Sunday, it includes a parade featuring the local Diables, Gegants and Castellers, as well as Sardana dancers and other folk culture groups. For families who like to combine their trip with a local festival, this date provides a clear cultural focus when planning.
Beaches, the Besòs Estuary and nature
Sant Adrià de Besòs has two beaches: Platja del Litoral and Platja del Fòrum. They are separated by the mouth of the Besòs River. The final 450 metres of the Besòs River before it flows into the Mediterranean form the La desembocadura zone in the Parc Fluvial del Besòs. The beach area next to the estuary is protected and sensitive; designated sections are intended to support dune stabilisation and promote biodiversity. In summer, both beaches have showers, children’s play areas, volleyball nets and accessible paths.
For active days, you can also take into account the scale of the Parc Fluvial del Besòs: the relevant section extends for approximately five kilometres from the Pont de la Pota Nord in Santa Coloma de Gramenet to the railway bridge in Sant Adrià de Besòs. This varied combination of coast, river landscape, culture and festival tradition helps you determine the focus you want for your trip and search for a suitable holiday apartment in Sant Adrià de Besòs based on your personal holiday preferences.
If you would like to compare other destinations, you can also discover Canyelles, Sant Quirze Safaja, Cerdanyola Del Valles, Corró d'Avall, Vilanova De Sau, Oristà, Monistrol De Montserrat and Sant Pol De Mar.
