Pujalt: Old Town, Observatori and Ruta dels 5 pobles

The old town of Pujalt is a walled village. Its development began with the castle. The remains of this castle are preserved at the highest point of the village. The Portal de Baix has also been preserved. It lies between Cal Franquesa and the Gothic Capella de la Concepció. The Romanesque Capella de Sant Ponç is located near the ruins of Pujalt Castle.

Culture

The parish church of Sant Andreu de Pujalt is a building of medieval origin. It lies outside the former walled area of Pujalt. The Retaule de la Puríssima Concepció is a wooden altarpiece. It is gilded and polychrome-painted. The Mare de Déu de la Puríssima Concepció is a Gothic marble depiction. It is also polychrome-painted and shows the Virgin Mary with the Child in her arms. The Child is holding a book.

According to oral tradition, the Mare de Déu de la Concepció was found around the year 1600. It is said to have been discovered in a rose bush in the scree field of Coma d'en Roig.

Public visits to the Observatori de Pujalt require advance booking. The number of participants is limited. A night-time visit to the Parc Astronòmic de Pujalt includes an introduction to the Observatori de Pujalt and its facilities. The programme includes an immersive 360° planetarium. The sky is also observed with the naked eye. Observation with a TGS telescope is also included; the telescope has a 51 cm aperture. The programme therefore combines an introduction to the facility with two different forms of observing the sky: viewing it without instruments and observing it through the telescope.

The Parc Astronòmic de Pujalt is located at an altitude of 750 metres. It has a clear, dark sky away from the light pollution of large cities. The altitude and the distance from large cities are among the site's explicitly stated features.

The Ruta dels 5 pobles is a mountain-bike or e-bike route. It runs through the landscapes of Alta Anoia. The route passes through La Guàrdia Pilosa, Conill and Pujalt. It also passes through l'Astor and Vilamajor. These five place names fully identify the route's course through the landscapes of Alta Anoia.

Memorial

A walk through the forest leads to the museum-style exhibits of the former training camp of the XVIII Army Corps of the Republican People's Army in Pujalt. The Memorial de l'Exèrcit Popular commemorates the training base of this army corps established in Pujalt in spring 1938. The Memorial is intended for a guided visit without prior booking. The scheduled time is 11 a.m. on the last Sunday of each month.
