Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues: Culture, Trails and Wine
The church of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues is considered a building with medieval, modern and contemporary stylistic elements. A document from 1188 mentions the parish of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues.
Culture and History
El Forn exposició rural was built between 1915 and 1920 as a bakery cooperative building; originally, the building served as a warehouse for the Sindicat. During the Spanish Civil War, El Forn exposició rural became a cooperative bakery; as such, the building was used for only a few years. The renovation in 2003 prepared El Forn exposició rural for a local collection. This local collection comprises a selected exhibition of tools and equipment from agriculture and rural life.
The Roman milestone “Mil·liari romà” was erected in 2018 to mark the ancient route of the Via Augusta. It contains cultural and historical information about a route in Alt Penedès that connects twelve municipalities.
The guided walk “Passejada guiada per la història de Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues” focuses on rural life and the history of Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues.
Landscape and Trails
The Camí del Pont was restored and planted with native vegetation to provide residents and visitors with a place for walking and relaxation. Various plant and animal species can be observed along the Camí del Pont; the plants include poplars, fig trees, ivy and broom, while the animal species include geckos, bee-eaters, salamanders and hedgehogs. The design of the trail and the species mentioned give this section its specific character.
The Font del Cuscó is a spring-like hollow in a natural rock face that opens directly into the rock. The route to the Font del Cuscó leaves the vineyards of the plain behind and leads into the forest. There is an archaeological site at the Font del Cuscó. The remains there include relics from the Iberian and Roman periods. Thus, the natural rock face, the transition between vineyards and forest, and the two historical periods mentioned come together at this place.
The Torrent del Pont crosses Sant Cugat Sesgarrigues from north to south. Its course lies at the southwestern edge of the town centre.
