Montmeló: Museum, History and Race Track

Montmeló combines a city museum, historic routes, the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and distinctive landscape features. The Museu Municipal de Montmeló presents the permanent exhibition “Montmeló, camins i anys” on the town’s historical development in the context of Vallès and Catalonia. The museum is housed in Can Caballé, a manor house built around 1920. Current opening hours should be checked before travelling if the permanent exhibition is the main focus of the day. For a museum visit, opening hours are a separate planning factor, while the historic building provides the setting for the exhibition.

History and Culture

Mons Observans was built in the last third of the 2nd century BC and was designated a Cultural Asset of National Interest (BCIN) in 2008. The historic site therefore combines an ancient origin with a later legal protection status.

The guided route “Montmeló entre la segona república i la transició” explores historical, social and political events from 1931 to 1978. The “Estiueig de Carmanyola” route traces Montmeló’s development from an agriculturally dominated municipality into an industrial and urban community. The two routes therefore differ in their chronological and thematic focus: one covers events between 1931 and 1978, while the other addresses the development of the local population and economic structure.

Race Track and Cycling

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya offers guided tours. During these tours, visitors get to know the facilities and restricted areas. There are also private track sessions for visitors who want to drive their own cars or motorcycles. Before a guided tour, current visiting hours should be checked; for private track sessions, the applicable event times are relevant.

During the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya’s “Bicircuit” sessions, cyclists can ride in a safe environment. The current dates and times for these sessions should be checked before travelling.

Landscape

The Turó de les Tres Creus features an information viewpoint illustrating the surrounding geographical landscape. At the foot of the Turó, the Mogent and Congost rivers converge; their confluence forms the Besòs River. When travelling to a viewpoint, it is advisable to check current trail conditions before setting off. The viewpoint and the river confluence are located in different places within the same landscape feature.

Transport

Montmeló railway station is served by the R-2 Nord commuter rail line (Aeroport–Maçanet Massanes). In addition, bus route 428 connects Montornès, Montmeló and Granollers. The two transport services mentioned differ in terms of mode of transport and route; current timetables should be checked before travelling. This also applies when combining both modes of transport, as the train and bus timetables must then be considered together.
