Nature and Trails

La Cova de Mura is a natural cave formed in conglomerate rock and extends approximately 160 metres underground. Stalactites and stalagmites can be found inside the cave. Feather-like aragonite is also among its formations; it is known as “flos ferri”.

Mura is one of the municipalities with a particularly large number of geological attractions in the UNESCO Global Geopark Catalunya Central.

If you choose the La riera de Nespres route, it starts at the Mura Information Centre and leads to Gorg del Padre. Several marked excursions also start at the Mura Information Centre.

The Més de mil fonts route leads to several natural springs in the vicinity of Mura. It also passes the remains of an old grain mill and a lime kiln.

The landscape features mentioned therefore range from a cave extending deep into the conglomerate rock to springs and traces of earlier use. The two routes connect different starting points: La riera de Nespres runs from the information centre to Gorg del Padre, while Més de mil fonts connects the natural springs with the old grain mill and the lime kiln.

Culture and Historic Places

The church of Sant Martí de Mura is first mentioned in documentary records in 972.

Casa Museu Molí del Mig is an 11th-century farmhouse. The building is located beside the Riera de Nespres on the edge of Parc Natural de Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac.

A traditional mill can be visited at Casa Museu Molí del Mig. Its operation can also be observed there.

Puig de la Balma is a settlement built beneath a rock overhang. It makes use of a large cavity in the rock that opens towards the east. The Puig de la Balma complex includes a museum area and accommodation for rural tourism.

The historic places showcase different forms of architectural and cultural heritage: Sant Martí de Mura is documented through its early mention in written records, while Molí del Mig is defined by the farmhouse and traditional mill. Puig de la Balma, on the other hand, combines the settlement integrated into the rock with a museum area and rural tourism.

Festivals Throughout the Year

The Festa de Sant Marc has very ancient origins. Traditionally, it is held to ask Saint Mark for protection from lightning strikes and storms. The festival takes place on the Sunday closest to 25 April.

The Fira d'Artesans de Mura traditionally takes place at the same time as the Festa de Sant Marc, with craftspeople and traders from the surrounding area taking part.

During the Christmas season, you can walk through Mura during the Festa del Tió. On this occasion, the Tions can be viewed. You can also take part in choosing the best Tió of the year.

Thus, two different festive periods take place throughout the year: the Festa de Sant Marc is tied to the Sunday close to 25 April and is accompanied by the Fira d'Artesans de Mura. The Festa del Tió, on the other hand, belongs to the Christmas season and includes the walk through Mura, viewing the Tions and choosing the best Tió of the year.
