Culture and Architecture

Terrassa is home to the Casa Alegre de Sagrera, a bourgeois residence from the early 20th century. The building is designed in an eclectic style inspired by Modernisme. Its modernist features include woodwork and wrought-iron work. Mosaics are part of it, as are stained-glass windows. The features also include wall paintings. Sculptural reliefs are also part of it.

The Masia Freixa features curved forms. Its design includes parabolic arches. Its white vaults are characteristic.

The Torre del Palau was built in the 12th century. Its construction served to control a crossroads. This crossroads connected Barcelona with the interior of Catalonia. The Torre del Palau is the only surviving remnant of Castell Palau.

History and Museums

La Seu d’Ègara was founded in the mid-5th century. The complex preserves Iberian remains. Roman remains are also preserved in the complex. La Seu d’Ègara offers a visitor centre. The centre has audiovisual material. This material accompanies a tour through fifteen centuries of history.

The MNACTEC is housed in the Vapor Aymerich, Amat i Jover. This building is a former textile factory. Lluís Muncunill designed the factory. It was built between 1907 and 1908. The MNACTEC exhibition “La fàbrica tèxtil” shows the production process for wool. It presents this process using the rooms of the former factory. Its industrial machinery is also used for this purpose.

The building’s former function is thus preserved in the exhibition: the rooms and industrial machinery of the former factory are used to show the production process for wool. The Castell Cartoixa de Vallparadís complements this museum area with a temporary exhibition hall for the Museu de Terrassa and a permanent exhibition.
