In the centre of Orpí stands Castell d'Orpí, the first building that comes into view on arrival. Directly attached to the castle is the Romanesque parish church of Sant Miquel d'Orpí. A six-sided polygonal tower has been preserved from the castle. The first documented records of Castell d'Orpí date from 987. Thus, the same location brings together a position in the town centre, a sacred extension and a distinctive surviving structural element.

Nature and landscape

The municipality of Orpí lies in the middle valley of the Riera de Carme. The Riera de Carme runs through the centre of the municipality from west to east. The Serra de Feixes, also known as Serra d'Orpinell, lies in the south of the municipality. The ridge, formed from Eocene limestone, reaches 737 metres and lies on the boundary with the municipality of La Llacuna and the comarca of Alt Penedès.

The municipality has a mountainous and rugged relief. Scrubland and degraded shrub formations cover 45 percent of the area, while forests account for 14 percent. A total of eleven paper mills are located along the Riera de Carme; four of them lie within the municipality of Orpí. The river course, ridge, relief and proportions of vegetation thus create a landscape with clearly identified natural and historical reference points.

Culture and history

The Fira de les Bresques originated as a traditional gathering organised to promote the honey produced by beekeepers from the surrounding area. The programme of the Fira de les Bresques on 26 April 2026 in Santa Càndia, Orpí, comprised two specific elements: a honey tasting and an exhibition of handicrafts related to beekeeping. The event therefore combines its traditional focus on honey with an explicitly stated date and the two programme items.
