Discover Granollers: Culture, Nature and Trails

Granollers is home to L’Adoberia dels Ginebreda, an archaeological site and historical interpretation centre dedicated to medieval Granollers. Preserved there are a section of the town wall, the remains of two defensive towers and the only surviving tannery in Granollers.

The lower area, known as the “ribera”, contains a well, a hearth, as well as pits and basins. These were used for soaking, bleaching and tanning leather. The site’s craft use is thus made visible through several specific facilities.

Culture and History

La Porxada is classified as a cultural asset of national importance, a Bien Cultural de Interés Nacional. Construction of the Roca Umbert factory began in 1904; the first looms were installed there.

The “Granollers Bombardeado” route includes a visit to one of the air-raid shelters built in 1938. Another regular event is the Fira d’artesans del Vallès, a small fair featuring local craft producers on Carrer Anselm Clavé.

The Fira takes place on one Saturday each month, except in August and September. The monthly schedule and the stated seasonal exception are therefore just as much part of the event’s profile as its focus on local crafts.

Trails through Granollers

A free audio-guided route through the historic centre conveys part of the town’s history and cultural heritage. It takes 45 minutes and is 1.2 kilometres long, clearly defining its temporal and spatial scope.

The route to Puig de les Forques and Torre Pinós combines the views from Puig de les Forques with a visit to Torre Pinós. The Volta al terme de Granollers route passes through municipal natural areas and connects the Serra de Ponent, the Can Cabanyes woodland, the Serra de Llevant and the town centre.

La ruta de l’aigua passes through the rural area of Palou and includes the Can Cabanyes natural area. The various landscape areas mentioned are each located within the route sections described: Palou and Can Cabanyes on La ruta de l’aigua, and the two Serras and the town centre on the Volta al terme de Granollers.

River Landscapes and Nature

The Mira el Congost route follows the Congost along its section through Granollers, from the Riera del Carbonell to Can Cabanyes. It highlights the biodiversity of river habitats.

The riverside promenade along the Congost is suitable for walking, observing flora and fauna, running, cycling and other sports. At the Museu de Ciències Naturals de Granollers, the permanent exhibition includes an unlit cave with information about bats, as well as a permanent exhibition about invertebrates from marine and terrestrial habitats.

The del Pedró picnic area is a viewpoint overlooking the town of Granollers, the valleys of the Congost, Mogent and Besòs, the Vallès plain and the surrounding mountains.
