Tarragona: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Tarraco was the first and oldest Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula. The Archaeological Ensemble of Tarraco was added to the World Heritage List in 2000.

Those visiting Tarragona may wish to rent a holiday apartment for this purpose.

Culture and history

Miravet Castle is a fortress with 25-metre-high walls on a hill above the Ebro. The Santes Creus Monastery preserves two royal tomb monuments, which are considered important works of early Catalan Gothic architecture and the only royal tombs of the Crown of Aragon to have survived intact. The monastery was founded in 1160 and remained until 1835 the centre of one of the most extensive and influential monastic lordships of the Crown of Aragon. Santes Creus offers guided tours for individual visitors and the general public.

The Escaladei Charterhouse lies at the bottom of a valley protected by the Montsant mountain range. It was the first charterhouse on the Iberian Peninsula and influenced the founding of many charterhouses established later. The restored area of communal life at the Escaladei Charterhouse is open to visitors. Escaladei offers guided tours for individual visitors and the general public.

Poblet Monastery is the largest monastery on the Cistercian Route. Poblet is the only one of the two men’s monasteries on the Cistercian Route to preserve a monastic community.
