Móra D'ebre on the Ebro: Trails, Culture and Holiday Apartments

Nature and Trails

Two GR99 routes in the municipality of Móra d’Ebre can be covered on foot or by bicycle. One GR99 route connects Móra d’Ebre with Ascó and passes through the Pas de l’Ase gorge. The linear Ruta pel Balcó de l’Ebre runs between the Passeig de l’Ebre and the Passeig del Pont.

The La Picossa route also offers several named stops: it begins in the area of the Santa Madrona and Sant Jeroni hermitages and climbs towards La Picossa. From La Picossa, it continues to the l’Estel summit and past the Cova de la Porca. The various route options help you compare trails by theme and course.

On the water, the “Kayak and memory, un riu republicà” canoe route runs between Vinebre and Móra d’Ebre, leading to sites associated with the Battle of the Ebro and passing preserved remains from that period. Another canoe trip for birdwatching runs between Garcia and Móra d’Ebre and includes the Subarrec island in Móra d’Ebre.

Many of the Ebro’s islands and channels are designated wildlife reserves and included in the “Illes de l’Ebre” PEIN area. Parc de l’Aubadera has barbecue areas, fountains, tables and swings, as well as a grove of poplars and elms.

Culture and History

The old town of Móra d’Ebre, with its narrow, historically shaped streets, lies next to Castell de Móra and the priory church. The present-day concrete bridge, Pont d’arcades, was inaugurated in 1943 and consists of several arches. Guided visits to Castell de Móra are organised in summer by prior reservation.

La Llanterna Teatre in Móra d’Ebre stages performances, particularly during the Fira del Llibre Ebrenc and Litterarum. Litterarum presents literary works in the form of music, dance, theatre, poetry and magic. The Fira del Llibre Ebrenc is a meeting place for authors who were born in Móra d’Ebre or are connected with the town.

Local Traditions

The Festa del Riu de Móra d’Ebre is considered Catalonia’s oldest river festival and currently includes a particularly large number of traditional elements. It features a historical reenactment in which Ebro-sirgadors wearing period clothing pull a 1,000-kilogram Muleta with a towline.

At the Festa del Riu, the drink Sirgador is served, a coffee-based beverage with a special ingredient. Clotxa is described as a traditional dish of Móra d’Ebre. As part of Primavera Cultural 2026, traditional Ranxo will be distributed and served for tasting.
