Pratdip: Serra de Llaberia, Culture and Routes

Pratdip lies on the south-eastern slope of the Serra de Llaberia; numerous routes with varying levels of difficulty start from here. The area of Pratdip is essentially formed by the valley of the Barranc de la Dòvia, which joins the Santa Marina valley below the village. The Cingles de Mont-redon form the mountain backdrop to Pratdip. Several exceptional viewpoints offer views across the entire Camp de Tarragona.

Nature and landscape

Near Pratdip lies the Santuari de Santa Marina in a natural setting. It comprises a chapel dedicated to Saint Marina, a spring and a picnic area.

Culture and history

The Church of Santa Maria preserves a 12th-century apse; the rest of the building was remodelled in the 16th century and has chapels dating from the 18th century. One of Pratdip’s medieval defensive towers formed part of the town wall, which protected the village from the 13th or 14th century onwards, and this tower was classified in 1985 as a cultural asset of national interest in Catalonia. The Torre de Cal Capet preserves the former entrance portal with a round arch. Els Tres Molins is a protected medieval monument of local cultural interest and consists of three water mills. The Ruta dels Dips, created by the Oficina de Turisme, is a circular route that conveys the legend of the Dips.

Activities

The countryside around Pratdip offers routes for mountain biking and cycle tourism. There are numerous climbing routes on the rocks and cliffs of Pratdip, with varying levels of difficulty. The Centre Horus is a nature centre where visitors can see yellow scorpions, exotic pheasants, snakes and other animals up close. Pratdip Llegendari takes place on the last weekend of October and conveys local traditions to a family audience. Hípica Sancho la Roca offers horse and pony rides. The various types of activity stand alongside one another as different options; the stated levels of difficulty help with comparing the routes. The October weekend and the Centre Horus provide additional cultural and nature-related focuses, respectively.
