Les Borges del Camp – Culture, Landscape and Holiday Apartments

Les Borges del Camp combines a festival tradition with a landscape that stretches from the agricultural plain through hazelnut fields and the foothills of the mountains to the Mediterranean. The Museu de la Ràdio adds a distinctive cultural touch: it has more than 300 radios and also includes telegraphs, telephones, recording devices and gramophones.

Culture

The Festa Major of Les Borges del Camp was classified by the government in 2010 as a traditional festival of national interest. Traditionally, it takes place on 7, 8, 9 and 10 September; 11 September is also included. The Ball de Diables is an element of festive cultural heritage of national interest. At the Festa Major, it has been documented as a regularly performed part of the festival tradition since the 1880s.

History

The origins of Les Borges del Camp date back to the Reconquista in the second half of the 12th century. Prehistoric remains and traces from the Roman period have also been found in the municipality.

Historical buildings include Cal Vall, a manor house that was the home of the Carlist leader Maties de Vall i Llaberia, as well as Cal Dasca, an 18th-century building.

The Ermita de la Mare de Déu de la Riera is a Modernist building from 1904, designed by Francesc Berenguer i Mestres. It is located about 800 metres west of the town centre. The Romanesque statue of the Mare de Déu de la Riera is included in the Catalan Cultural Heritage Catalogue.

Landscape

Les Borges del Camp lies at the foot of the final foothills of the Serra de la Mussara and the Muntanyes de Prades. The municipality is drained by the Riera d'Alforja, whose bed is normally dry, as well as by several ravines. The plain, fields, mountain landscape and Mediterranean are connected by a range of different landscapes.

Things to Do

The viewpoints around Les Borges del Camp can be explored on foot or by bicycle. The “El Ciclo Mediterráneo” route follows a path equipped with landscape information panels to the Riera d'Alforja and follows it on the return journey to Les Borges del Camp. Throughout the municipality, there are public drinking fountains made from different materials.
