Discover Bot: Via Verda, festivals and wine

The Via Verda runs through Bot along a former railway line that has been transformed into a nature trail for hiking, cycling or horse riding. Next to the town is the Antiga Estació de Bot, which provides an easily accessible starting point for the Via Verda.

Nature

The easy, 4 km Bot–Ermita de Sant Josep–Forat de la Donzella hiking route passes through cultivated land and pine forest before returning to Bot. On the also easy, 6 km Bot–Cova de la Gàbia–Molandins route, you reach the Cova de la Gàbia, which is considered a waterfall worth seeing when there is sufficient water flow. The moderately difficult, 12 km Bot–Mudèfers–Camí de la Serra–Via Verda route runs along tracks and forest paths and offers views of Bot’s agricultural and forest mosaic. The moderately difficult, 13 km circular Bot–Prat de Comte–La Fontcalda hike begins and ends in Bot and leads to the open-air thermal baths of La Fontcalda in the valley of the Riu Canaletes. The different lengths and difficulty levels help you compare the trails by distance and challenge.

The section of the Via Verda between Bot and Horta de Sant Joan passes through vineyards, olive groves and mountain landscapes, as well as through tunnels and over viaducts, including a viaduct over the Riu Canaletes. In the area around Bot, an easy cycling route follows a paved path through the Riu Canaletes valley to Les Olles. Les Olles is a series of natural rock pools formed by erosion that are suitable for swimming; the fragile ecosystem must be respected. The route to the summit of Migdia is recommended exclusively for experienced mountain hikers because the final section includes a technically difficult rock face.

Culture

The Festa Major de Sant Blai takes place at the beginning of February in honour of the town’s patron saint. In mid-March, on the occasion of the feast of Saint Joseph on 19 March, a pilgrimage and a communal meal take place in Bot at the Ermita de Sant Josep. The Subhasta de Sant Antoni is one of Bot’s local events that has been held for a hundred years.
