Activities

Vilanova de Prades offers routes for hiking and mountain biking, as well as trails and tours classified according to different levels of difficulty. At the foot of the cliffs of the Serra La Llena near Vilanova de Prades, there are more than 400 climbing routes with varying levels of difficulty.

Festivals and Cuisine

The Festa i Mercat de la Castanyada takes place in Vilanova de Prades on the last weekend of October. The festival is recognised as an event of regional interest. The festival includes a communal breakfast, a market and gatherings of giants’ groups. It also features the collective painting exhibition “Homenatge Àngel García”.

The chestnut season in Vilanova de Prades lasts until the end of January. Chestnut-based cuisine is also maintained there. The scheduled date of the Castanyada and the chestnut season lasting until the end of January therefore mark two different time periods relating to the local chestnut culture.

History

Along Carrer Major and the adjoining streets in Vilanova de Prades, houses with portal arches dating from the 16th to the 19th century have been preserved.

A castle in Vilanova de Prades has been documented since the 12th century. It mainly served as a refuge for passers-by.

The Church of Sant Salvador is a Baroque building from the late 18th century. Some walls of the predecessor building, already mentioned in 1180, have been preserved as a dividing wall with the rectory.

Landscape

The Cova dels Calaixos de l’Ereldo cave, also known as Cova de l’Home Fe, can be entered. After walking bent over for a few metres, you can stand upright inside. A torch is not required. In addition to the name Cova dels Calaixos de l’Ereldo, the cave is also known as Cova de l’Home Fe.

The Serra de la Llena peak is located in the vicinity of Vilanova de Prades. The Penya Alta peak is also located in the vicinity of Vilanova de Prades. The Punta del Curull peak is located in the vicinity of Vilanova de Prades. The Punta del Sales peak is located in the vicinity of Vilanova de Prades.

Getting There

From Montblanc, you can reach Vilanova de Prades via the N-240 towards Lleida, followed by the TV-7004 through Vimbodí and Vallclara.
