Santa Bàrbara lies in the middle of the plain of la Galera, surrounded by extensive olive groves and between the two major nature parks of Els Ports and the Ebro Delta. Landscape, local history and culinary traditions are presented here as separate themes alongside one another.

When comparing holiday apartments in Santa Bàrbara, focus on the travel dates, the specified room category and the cancellation conditions. Offers can be sorted using such specific details; when choosing the location, you can consider the focal points of landscape, culture, routes and cuisine separately.

Culture

At the Museu de la Vida a la Plana, the „Josep Antoni Valls“ Natural History Collection presents a selection of palaeontological and mineralogical exhibits.

The Centre d'Interpretació de la Vida a la Plana is located in the former oil mill of Masada de Martí, one of the oldest masades in Santa Bàrbara.

The history of Santa Bàrbara is linked to the settlement of the plain and the construction of large masades, which occupied extensive parts of the flat area from the 18th century onwards. The remote location of the masades of Santa Bàrbara and the intensity of the Carlist Wars in this area led to unique and distinctive architectural features in the 19th century.

Towards the end of the 19th century, the Església arxiprestal de Santa Bàrbara was designed; it follows the Neo-Romanesque aesthetic of eclectic and historicist architecture. Its main altarpiece, in twelve panels by Carles Arola, depicts the life of the Virgin and martyr Santa Bàrbara.

You can organise your itinerary by theme rather than according to a fixed sequence; you decide for yourself whether natural history, local history or architecture comes first.

In 2025, the Ajuntament de Santa Bàrbara and Conficon Turisme i Tradicions signed an agreement: The company was authorised to manage the interpretation area of the Museu de la Vida a la Plana and bring various tourist groups to visit the facility.

Nature

A Via Augusta route in Santa Bàrbara follows the Via Augusta for 6.4 km. With a fixed kilometre marker, this focal point can be planned differently from an appointment or an exhibition; the details provide you with different points of reference for the rhythm of your day.

Cuisine

Since 1997, Santa Bàrbara has hosted the Fira de l'Oli Novell, els Cítrics i el Comerç. It takes place on the third weekend of November, when the first new oil traditionally comes out of the presses.

As part of the simultaneously held Jornades Gastronòmiques de la Cuina de l'Oli, the town’s restaurants offer tasting menus featuring local oil and local citrus fruits.

When arranging your schedule, you can view the event date and the culinary offering as two interconnected but distinct focal points.
