Deltebre: Hiking Trails, Lagoons and Rice-Growing Traditions

Hiking
Hiking route 5 "Desembocadura-Garxal-Riumar" is an easy circular trail covering 6.9 km, with an estimated duration of 1 hour and 45 minutes. Its route explores the final stretch and estuary of the Ebro, the Garxal lagoon and the Riumar district.
The "Passeig fluvial del Deltebre" hiking route is an easy out-and-back trail covering 12.6 km, with an estimated duration of 3 hours. The "Punta del Fangar" hiking route is also an easy out-and-back trail; its 8.4 km take an estimated 2 hours and 15 minutes.

The three routes pass through different parts of the delta. Route 5 connects the final stretch of the Ebro with its estuary, the Garxal lagoon and Riumar. The riverside walk includes Deltebre in its name, while the Punta del Fangar route refers to another named landscape feature of the delta.
Nature and Water
Playa del Garxal is a natural beach in the Garxal area, south of Riumar Beach. Bassa del Canal Vell is the largest lagoon in the left half of the delta.
Several companies in the Deltebre area operate river cruises. These cruises follow the Ebro to its estuary.
Thus, named beach, lagoon and river landscapes come together in the Deltebre area. Garxal appears both as the area of the natural beach and as a lagoon along the hiking route; the Ebro, with its final stretch and estuary, provides another recurring landscape reference.
Culture and Knowledge
EbreTerra is a tourist, gastronomic and educational centre in the municipality of Deltebre. The centre includes an interactive museum area and rooms for cooking classes.
The Ecomuseu is the information centre of the Delta de l’Ebre Natural Park. Visitors can learn more there about the formation and history of the delta. Other topics include its architecture, festivals and traditions.
