Nature

The protected natural area of Els Muntanyans stretches from the area around Clarà bridge to the municipal boundary with Creixell. In its other dimension, this natural area extends from the railway line to the sea. Els Muntanyans is part of the Platja de Torredembarra i Creixell natural area, which belongs to the Costes del Tarragonès Natura 2000 network.

The Sender Blau runs for 2.2 kilometres along Els Muntanyans beach. Along its route are wetlands, dunes and lagoons containing up to 11 habitats of Community interest. The route therefore connects the beach area with a landscape where wet zones, sand formations and lagoons lie directly alongside one another. The Sender Blau is moderately demanding as a route. Several sections of the path have been adapted for people with reduced mobility. Cal Bofill houses a permanent exhibition about Els Muntanyans.

The permanent exhibition complements the route with a fixed point of reference connected to the natural area. Along this section, the spatial extent of Els Muntanyans, its different landscape elements and the presentation at Cal Bofill can therefore be encountered together, without the individual components having to be considered separately.

Culture

In the Clarà district, the church of Sant Joan Baptista has been documented since the 13th century. Its interior is predominantly Gothic and dates from the 14th century. The interior includes alterations from the 16th and 17th centuries. The church’s current entrance is located beneath a double-arched bell gable. This bell gable bears the year 1842.

The church thus brings together several clearly stated dates: it has been documented since the 13th century, its predominantly Gothic interior dates from the 14th century, and later alterations belong to the 16th and 17th centuries. At the current entrance, the double-arched bell gable additionally bears the year 1842.

The surviving remains of Clarà Castle are incorporated into the Cal Xeco manor house. Cal Xeco manor house includes a tower with a vaulted entrance to the grounds and the remains of a defensive machicolation. Museu Deu is a museum in the surrounding area of Clarà. Museu Diocesà is also a museum in the surrounding area of Clarà. The Palace of the bishop of Tarragnoa is a palace in the surrounding area of Clarà.

The historic buildings in the district, together with the museums and the palace in the surrounding area, form different cultural points of reference. At Cal Xeco, the surviving castle remains, the tower, the vaulted entrance to the grounds and the remains of the defensive machicolation are all explicitly preserved.
