Montbrió del Camp: Sundials, Culture and Regional Products

Montbrió del Camp reveals its distinctive character in the historic centre: an intact medieval street layout leads to Plaça de la Vila, which forms the centre of the town. More than twelve historic and contemporary sundials, dating from the 17th century to the present day, are distributed throughout the town. The Sundial Route begins in the main square and leads through the church to the Ermita de Sant Antoni, Horta Florida and several farmhouses. Culture and History

The parish church of Sant Pere Apòstol was built in the late Renaissance style. Its tower contains a large clock, a rattle and three old bells. Inside, there is a preserved and restored Baroque organ from the 18th century, which is of considerable art-historical value. The Ermita de Sant Antoni is a Baroque building and is classified as a Bé Cultural d’Interès Local, that is, an Asset of Local Cultural Interest.

The townscape also includes several houses of modernist interest. The Museu del Vi Els Cups and other museums preserve collections of paintings and sculpture. Local customs also have notable historical associations: Montbrió del Camp has four pairs of giants. One of these pairs dates from 1814, while another is around 150 years old; the giants appear at the town’s major festivals.

Routes and Trails

Montbrió del Camp offers circular walking routes centred on the town. The health routes follow flat, well-maintained paths without any significant climbs and are generally considered suitable for all sections of the population. One route starts and ends in Montbrió del Camp and follows the markings of the PR C-28.

For cycle tourism, Montbrió del Camp lies on the circular Olive Oil Route. This route connects seven olive-oil-producing towns and can begin and end in Montbrió. The various routes therefore range from local circular routes and marked paths to a cycling tour through several towns, without the individual options following the same course.

Cuisine and Thermal Waters

The olive oil of Montbrió del Camp belongs to the Denominación de Origen Siurana, while the Moscatell from Montbrió is assigned to the D.O. Tarragona. The annual Fava and Moscatell Gastronomy Days are held around 1 May and showcase these products in the town’s restaurants.

The Festa de l’Oi i el Moscatell takes place on the third Saturday in January and provides an opportunity to taste the town’s characteristic products. Montbrió del Camp also has thermal waters that have been known since Roman times.

Montbrió del Camp can be reached via the local roads T-312, T-313 and T-320, as well as via the T-310 from Reus; AP-7 exit 37 is approximately 5 km away. The nearest railway and bus stations are in Reus and Cambrils. Reus Airport is 16 km from Montbrió del Camp.
