Colldejou lies on a sunny hillside, surrounded by lush forests, dry-farmed fields and a few gardens. Behind the small village rise El Rei, La Reina, Mola de Colldejou and Mola de Llaberia. Mola de Colldejou reaches 921 metres and offers expansive views of the sea, the surrounding plains and mountain ranges.

Nature

The Serra de Llaberia-Colldejou natural area structurally connects the mountains of Prades and Cardó. It encompasses diverse landscapes, including typical limestone mountain landscapes of southern Catalonia, individual areas of siliceous mountains, as well as remarkable vegetation and invertebrate fauna. The holm oak slopes of Mola de Colldejou were once intensively used for charcoal production, while the pastures on the summit were highly valued by shepherds.

History and Culture

The parish church dedicated to Sant Llorenç was built in the 18th century and is in the Baroque style. It has a single-nave layout and three side chapels on each side. Its bell tower is square up to the height of the side wall and octagonal above that. Several houses of medieval origin are very well preserved in Colldejou. On the summit of Mola de Colldejou are also the remains of a fort built during the Carlist Wars. Remains of fortification walls from the Carlist Wars, which once enclosed the village, have been preserved in the village.

Getting There and Choosing a Location

From Tarragona, Colldejou can be reached via the A-7 towards Castelló, taking exit 1138 near Mont-roig del Camp, then continuing via the T-323 and T-322. From Reus, the route follows the T-310 towards Riudoms to Mont-roig del Camp, and then continues via the T-322.

Festivals and Food

Sant Isidre is celebrated in Colldejou on 15 May. If this day falls on a weekday, the celebration is moved to the weekend. The festivities include a procession, the blessing of the fields, Sardanas and a communal snack. The Colldejou giants' gathering takes place every year one week before the festival of Sant Llorenç, the village's patron saint. The Colldejou Clotxa Festival is a public lunch featuring a traditional field meal, as it was once eaten by farmers in the fields: round bread, tomato, onion and roasted garlic, herring and sausage.
