La Figuera: Holiday apartment between distant views and the Priorat
La Figuera is situated at a high elevation and offers views of seven provinces: Tarragona, Lleida, Barcelona, Huesca, Zaragoza, Teruel and Castellón. The panorama of the Serra de Montsant is an additional highlight. For planning your trip, this gives you two perspectives side by side: the wide view across several provinces and the distinctive landscape around the Serra de Montsant.
When choosing a holiday apartment in La Figuera, you can compare travel dates, room categories and cancellation policies on the respective offer page. The combination of landscape, culture and wine creates different thematic focuses that you can consider separately for your own stay. To set your own priorities, you can give separate weight in La Figuera to paths, viewpoints, religious buildings, historic sites and links to wine. This keeps your planning open: not every trip has to combine the same places or the same mix of activity, culture and enjoyment.
Landscape and paths
The circular route „El Camino de Els Solans“ leads through La Figuera and offers wide views of the Serra de Montsant and large parts of the Priorat. The Coll d'en Solans viewpoint is approximately 1 kilometre from La Figuera. On foot, an unpaved path leads to an information board at the edge of the cliff.
The Serra de la Figuera can also be explored by bicycle, revealing characteristic landscapes of the Priorat. The circular route, walking route and bicycle excursion each place a different emphasis on getting around and can be incorporated separately into your daily planning.
Culture and history
The Sant Martí church stands at the highest point of the old town, on the site of the former castle of La Figuera. It was built between 1778 and 1792 and is an 18th-century religious building in the Baroque style. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross, and it also has three naves.
A former command post of the Republican army lies approximately 500 metres east of the Sant Pau hermitage. The Battle of the Ebro was planned at this site; a visit is planned.
The Sant Pau Observatory consists of a trench system reinforced with cement and can be reached by car via a simple access route. From there, the view extends up to 40 kilometres along the Ebro.
A mass is celebrated at the Sant Pau hermitage on 15 January for the feast of Saint Paul.
Wine
The La Figuera cooperative was founded in 1932 and continues to use the old wine presses to store the wine. Another wine-related destination is Ficaria Vins, a family project from La Figuera that has mainly grown Garnatxa since 2003.
The specific names, dates, types of paths and distance information in particular provide several factual reference points for assigning your own priorities to the landscape, history, religious sites and wine-related attractions according to your travel theme.
