Wine and Events

The Agrícola Falset-Marçà winery was founded in 1919. Its building is an example of Modernism and was designed by the architect Cèsar Martinell, who drew inspiration from medieval forms.

Agrícola Falset-Marçà is associated with a distinctive rancio wine, produced outdoors on the roof of the winery and aged using an almost hundred-year-old solera. Fira del Vi de Falset takes place on the first weekend of May and offers wines from the two designations of origin DOQ Priorat and DO Montsant, tastings and other accompanying events.

In Castell de Falset, the Castell del Vi area houses an exhibition dedicated to the wine culture of the Priorat comarca.

Culture and History

Falset's historic centre, historically known as Malanyet, is a compact medieval ensemble between the church and castle, extending around Plaça d'Àngel Marquès.

Tourist signs lead through the historic centre from the main entrances to the tourist office and the castle. A short walk connects the arcaded square, the parish church and the lanes leading up the hill.

Castell de Falset – Museu Comarcal offers an immersive and interactive presentation of the history and culture of Priorat: it spans the period from prehistory through Iberian and Roman trade and the medieval emergence of Falset to the wars of the modern era.

A guided circular route through medieval Falset begins and ends at Castell dels Comtes de Prades de Falset – Museu comarcal and conveys around 300 years of the town's history.

Portal del Bou is the only surviving one of the five former gates in Falset's town wall and was probably built at the beginning of the 14th century. It features stones bearing stonemasons' marks, as well as a passage with a segmental arch and a central round arch.

The Counts of Prades made Castell de Falset their main residence.

Tradition and Landscape

L'Encamisada is celebrated on the weekend closest to 17 January, the feast day of Saint Anthony. The celebration, with its strong rural tradition, is connected to a local legend about a night-time attack.

Falset lies in a valley surrounded by the mountains of Roca Roja, Morral and Llaberia, in the basin of the Siurana River.

Routes through Forests and Wine-Growing Areas

The Al peu de la Mola route passes through Falset and connects hiking trails leading from the participating municipalities through wooded areas to La Mola.

The Itinerari 5: Falset – Bellmunt – El Masroig – Marçà – Falset route is a 29.59-kilometre circular trail that starts and ends in Falset and runs mostly through vineyards and olive groves.

The Itinerari 6: Falset – Les Pinyanes – Les Obagues – Falset route starts at Plaça de les Escoles at the entrance to Falset in the direction of Gratallops.
