La Torre De Fontaubella: Trails, Festivals and History

“Un tast de la Torre” is a simple circular walk through the surroundings of la Torre de Fontaubella, approaching the settlement’s original location. La Torre de Fontaubella lies at the source of the riera de Marçà. From Falset, the route follows the T-3000 road to Marçà and then the TV-3001 to the village.

Nature

In the area around la Torre de Fontaubella, the Serra de Llaberia is a protected natural area of natural interest. The Serra de Llaberia has numerous springs there and is characterised by great geological diversity. The landscape around the site of the former settlement also includes Les Casotes, the ruins of pastoral dry-stone structures.

The combination of landscape and older settlement remains is also reflected in the “Un tast de la Torre” walk. It leads through the surrounding area and approaches the settlement’s original location. The Serra de Llaberia has numerous springs and great geological diversity.

Trails and Local History

The “De la Torre de Fontaubella a Llaberia” route begins at the village’s washhouses. It follows the camino de l’Aigua, also known as the camino antiguo de Llaberia. Another route in la Torre de Fontaubella explains the use of wind energy. For named routes, it is advisable to check current trail conditions and any route information before travelling.

For an outdoor break, la Torre de Fontaubella’s Àrea de lleure offers a camping area, fireplaces, tables, toilets and a car park. Camping in this Àrea de lleure requires permission from the town hall of la Torre de Fontaubella.

The Torre de Rafolí is attributed to the period of Moorish rule, but may be of older origin. The church of la Torre de Fontaubella is dedicated to Santa Maria; its bell tower dates from the 18th century and is Neoclassical. The Rentadors of la Torre de Fontaubella are among the places with a distinctive character.

Festivals and Traditions

The Festa Major d’estiu of la Torre de Fontaubella takes place on the first Saturday and Sunday in August in honour of the Nativitat de la Mare de Déu. The summer festival includes a festive Mass, exhibitions, traditional games, performances for children and dances. The Festa Major d’hivern takes place at New Year with a communal dinner. For events with fixed dates, the date and start time are part of the usual travel preparations; current times can be checked before travelling.

Cuisine

Habas con caracoles is considered a typical dish of la Torre de Fontaubella. It is accompanied by wine from the DO Montsant.
